Background and Context

The Sports and Fitness Centre provides extensive high quality facilities on the Hull Campus catering for the needs of students, staff and community. It has a recently refurbished fitness centre as well as a wide range of indoor and outdoor leisure facilities, including: Sports hall, studio, seminar room, external artificial surfaces, and grass pitches. The Sports Development Team are based within the Sports & Fitness Centre and provide through, a wide sustainable programme and calendar of participation level sports activity. Encouraging and enabling students of the University of Hull at both the Hull and Scarborough Campuses to participate in sport, increasing the level of sports participation while ensuring clear defined exit routes to foster lifelong sporting habits.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities of the post

The University of Hull has been successful in an application to BUCS to fund a Campus Football Activator. Based within the University of Hull Sports Development team the Campus Football Activator will assist the team to develop the Football and Futsal programme at the University of Hull. The role will focus on enhancing the current Intramural Football programme, providing recreational football opportunities and recruiting new volunteers and officials all across both the Hull Campus and Cottingham Halls of residence.

The role holder will be a student of the University. This role will be supervised on a daily basis and the role holder will be provided with a work plan to achieve the desired outcomes.

Overall Purpose of the Role

·  Roles at this level are involved in work that is prescribed and reactive, performing straightforward tasks within a given set of duties

·  The role holder will:

o  Work as part of a team to provide administrative support to staff, students and more senior colleagues

o  Be aware of basic principles and practice and have an understanding of this type of work gained through on-the-job training

Main Work Activities

Communication

·  Answer the telephone and assist callers with their queries; to take and forward messages as necessary

Teamwork

·  Under the guidance of a team leader, where necessary provide day-to-day support to other members of staff and members of staff new to the work area

Service Delivery

·  Assist the Sports Development Team to promote and provide football and futsal opportunities at the University of Hull

·  Coordinate the Intramural fixtures through an online fixture management tool

·  Alongside the Sports Development team to promote through promotion activity the Just Play Football and Futsal on the Campus and at the Halls of residence.

·  Help deliver a welcome football festival at the Halls in Semester 1 under guidance of the Sport Development Team. Registering teams and coordinating the event itinerary.

·  Help grow the numbers of small sided teams playing in the intramural leagues by recruiting 6 new teams (44 players) through raising awareness of the leagues through appropriate medias as guided by Sports Development.

·  The role holder will assist the Sport Development team to:

o  Establish an Inter hall football league

o  Recruit Mars Just Play coordinators

o  Recruit new and existing referees in to the Intramural football leagues

o  Explore sponsorship opportunities for the Intramural football programme.

o  Consult with female students to develop the female football offer at the University of Hull.

Additionally the post holder will be required to:

·  Fulfil the employees’ duties described in the University’s health and safety policies andco-operate with the health and safety arrangements in place within the department. May be required to undertake specific health and safety roles on request e.g. Display screen equipment assessor, departmental safety officer, fire warden
