AUSC Constitutional Review and Briefing
5th February, 2014
Letter to Members
As many of you are aware, we have a sister club in Ashburton called the Ashburton Women’s Soccer Club (“AWSC”). AWSC has grown to a membership of 160 women and girls competing in 11 teams ranging from U9’s to a senior women’s Premier League team in the WPL. You will also be aware that we have had our own contingent of girls playing at Ashburton United. In season 2013, we had approximately 80 girls competing in 6 teams ranging from U9’s to U14’s. We’ve also had a small number of trailblazing girls that have competed in “boys” teams ranging from U8’s through to U14’s.
One of the challenges that we currently face with our female program is the lack of a clear pathway for our girls to progress into women’s football. Another key challenge that we constantly face is in our relationship with the City of Boroondara as well as other neighbouring municipalities, particularly in relation to our grounds and facilities..Add to this the State Government and even the Federal Government for various grant opportunities. One point of confusion in these relationships is the reconciliation of the conflicting interests between ourselves and other clubs including AWSC.
It has long been our ambition to work more closely with AWSC and ultimately attract the AWSC back to form a truly UNITED football club for Ashburton. We are pleased to announce that we are well down the path in our negotiations. However, in order for us to properly complete this process, we need to update our constitution. Having said that, the need to update the constitution is not only brought on by the proposed integration of AWSC. There have recently been some state legislative changes that relate to incorporated associations and so we need to update our constitution to reflect this. Finally, as our club grows and expands the services that it offers to members, it is prudent to take this opportunity to update our constitution to reflect this.
A copy of the constitution can be seen here: Proposed AUSC Constitution
Following our call for member feedback, and the special meeting held on 4th February, the Proposed Constitution will be submitted to FFV for review.
Please note that ultimately, for us to implement this change, we will need to seek your approval through an Extraordinary General Meeting of the club. Once we have completed this consultation process, we intend to finalise the constitution and seek members endorsement prior to the end of the current season.
