Position: Assistant Systems Administrator

Reporting Relationship: Reports to Systems Administrator

JOB SUMMARY

The Assistant Systems Administrator is to ensure the secure and effective operation of all computer systems, related applications, hardware and software used within TWR Africa Regional Office.

SCOPE
·  Serving in the capacity of Assistant Systems Administrator at the TWR Africa Regional Office, Kempton Park, South Africa.
·  Reports to the Systems Administrator
KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS
General
·  Consistently upholds TWR and its global ministry in prayer individually and corporately.
·  Upholds TWR’s vision “to reach the world for Christ through mass media so that lasting fruit is produced”
EMail
·  Add and setup new users at the request of management.
·  Rebuilding users email.
·  Restore personal files missing (bookmarks, address books)
·  Ensure email messages can be printed.
·  Solve Microsoft Outlook problems.
·  Resolve missing encryption certificate issues
Printers
·  Ensure all printers are functional
·  Ensure users have the correct printer drivers installed
Passwords
·  Changing Windows passwords
·  Changing LINUX passwords
Hardware
·  Installation of:
o  Memory
o  SCSI cards
o  New hard drives
o  CD-ROM drives
o  Sound cards
o  Network cards
o  Video cards
·  Installing and upgrading of the various Operating Systems
·  Updating hardware drivers
·  Repair of PC’s
Software
·  Install all software used by TWR
·  Making sure all desktop and laptop operating systems have the latest "patches" and tested upgrade installed from appropriate software vendors.
·  Use the Internet to:
o  Search for updated drivers
o  Obtain patches for software and hardware
o  Searching "newsgroups" for help on difficult issues
o  Research products for purchase
·  Ensure that all licences and software media are current and stored in one safe place.
Networking
·  Install Ethernet network and patch panels
·  Trace and repairs Ethernet cable problems
·  Solve problems with the network hubs and network switchers.
·  Knowing the servers and what each one does.
·  Maintaining user accounts. (Passwords, permissions, directories, files)
NonTechnical issues:
·  Respond quickly to problems so that the user is able to get back to performing their task.
·  The ability to remotely support other users in the TWR Africa offices and studios or those on the road.
·  Training users in the use of their PCs, Windows operating system and the basics of the office automation systems
·  Logging problems for followup on the PC Help Desk database.
·  Reviewing PC Help Desk database weekly to make sure problems don't go unresolved.
·  Performing problem determination and passing more difficult technical problems onto the Systems Administrators.
·  Attend to PC Help Desk queries submitted through email.
·  Maintain a network diagram, as assistance to the Systems Administrators
Remote Support
·  Guiding users through problem determination and fixes on the phone.
·  Monitoring and assisting users remotely.
·  Using Bomgar to research remote user problems, to show the remote users how to use their PC tools, and to actually fix problems on the remote PCs over the Internet.
Security
·  Ensure that the anti-virus software is up to date and running
·  Obtaining and installing/maintaining email certificates for encryption for each user that requires one
·  Acting as backup to systems administrators in unlocking user passwords, setting up new users on the network and servers, etc.
ESSENTAL QUALIFICATIONS AND CORE JOB COMPETENCIES
·  Christian commitment, professing personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

·  Commitment to TWR’s mission, vision, strategic direction, core values and statement of doctrinal position.
·  Grade12 qualification or equivalent
·  A+ Certification
·  Ability to participate and foster teamwork within a multi-cultural team
·  Ability to foster two-way communication and adapt communication to others
·  Computer literate (Microsoft Office & Internet Explorer)
·  Good knowledge of English both spoken and written
·  Ability to plan, organize and manage resources
