The Story of Jacob Daniels
Jacob Daniels was born in 2139AD, making him 705 years old. He doesn’t look a day over 28.
The only son of an academic couple, Jacob was exposed to science from an early age. His father was a doctor of social sciences whilst his mother a doctor of physical sciences. Talents for both, as well as languages, seem to have found their way into Jacob’s genes.
Growing up less than 50 years after the near miss ELE event, Jacob was a child of a society looking to reach out and move away from home – move away from Earth.
His passion for science and his intellect placed him well to train as an archaeologist and after his first degree, just 3 years later he received his PhD.
By 2164, exploring the solar systems, Jacob was part of a team who were investigating the now more and more common ancient artefacts that were being discovered through the system. Interstellar space flight had become a possibility when Jacob was just 12 years old and in 2164 preparations were well underway for the colonisation fleet to embark on their epic journey.
Jacob’s passion had always been ancient Egypt, ancient Japan and the ancient Mayan civilisation.
All 3 civilisations were greatly advanced for their time and left last legacies in architecture, science, metallurgy, philosophy, warfare and society in general. It is also likely that they had contact with alien races.
Towards the end of 2164, Jacob was on Mars as the team was investigating some ruins in the Ius Chasma in the Valles Marineris. Jacob thought he recognised items of language that may have been related to the Mayan script and was engrossed in his studies to the point that he never noticed that the rest of his team had moved on to another area some fifteen minutes earlier.
Jacob discovered what he initially thought to be a description of how to find something of great importance. Within minutes he realised that it was in fact an item of great importance. In figuring out the logical puzzle on the stones in front of him, he was lifted from the ground momentarily and then dropped through a now open passageway that was seconds before the floor.
The impact knocked Jacob unconscious, which is no easy task. He woke minutes later to find that the hole above had covered and that he was lying on the gorund next to what appeared to be a small space ship, no bigger than a lifeboat.
Jacob’s radio connection raised no one and his air supply was heading towards the low end. Intrigued by the alien vessel and assuming that his colleagues would soon discover his absence and work out what had happened, he began to examine the ship.
A sleek, silvered ovoid shape with no obvious canopy or windows, it say without landing gear and appeared as if it should roll over at the slightest pressure but did not.
After 30 minutes of exploring and examining, Jacob realised that his air was now getting critical and still had no radio contact or sign of his colleagues. Becoming slightly more desperate now, Jacob started to look for ways out and then ways into the ship and then for anything that might help with his rapidly diminishing air supply.
10 minutes later, Jacob was fast coming to the realisation that he was going to suffocate. He desperately attempted to access the ship as he could see nothing else that might save him. He started calling on his radio that he was out of air any moment and finally remembered to press his emergency transponder.
Almost instantly, the ship slid open a door and Jacob stumbled in. He vaguely recalls the door closing and his helment being blasted away in a flash of light. He woke up nearly 680 years later, on the other side of the galaxy.
