Position: Youth Rugby Coach

Summary: The Youth Rugby Coach position is primarily tasked with organizing and leading weekly operations involved with the Youth Flag Rugby League or Middle School Modified Contact Rugby Leagues. In addition, the Youth Rugby Coach will assist the Youth Outreach Manager in school outreach to promote the league in which they will be leading.

Purpose & Responsibilities: The Youth Rugby Coach will provide leadership and encouragement for youth rugby players new to the sport of rugby. They will be responsible for implementing games and skills at every league day. League days will be once a week for 4 – 6 weeks, 1 – 3 hours per day, for grades Kindergarten through 8th. The Youth Rugby Coach will work with the Youth Programs Manager to develop weekly practice plans that are based on Rookie Rugby games and skills, as well as work with the Youth Outreach Manager to promote the leagues in schools around the area via PE Outreach.

  • Weekly communication with Youth Programs Manager via email/phone.
  • Overseeing all operations regarding the league with which the Youth Rugby Coach will be leading.
  • Supervising all program staff or support coaches
  • Work with communities, schools, and parents to promote league

Qualifications:

  • Basic rugby knowledge
  • Leadership/Coaching experience is preferred (but not necessary)
  • First Aid and CPR certifications preferred (but not necessary)
  • Highly positive and enthusiastic style capable of motivating youth
  • A passion to grow youth rugby in the state of Minnesota

All Youth Rugby Coaches will be go through online certifications for the following:

  • IRB Laws Exam
  • IRB Rugby
  • Online Rookie Rugby Quiz
  • CDC Concussion Test
  • SafeSports Test
  • USA Rugby Membership Concussion Test
  • Must be CIPP registered and ACTIVE as the role of a coach with USA Rugby

All coaches are required to be background checked (included in USA Rugby registration)

All coaches must sign and submit the MYR Coaches Code of Conduct

Reporting: Position reports to Youth Programs Manager

Type of Contract: (very)Part Time – Approx. 5 hours per week
