From the Superintendent – Mr. Siegfried:

Congratulations Class of 2014!

May is here and in less than four weeks the Class of 2014 will become the 96th graduating class of Chaney-Monge School. Many of our grads have been with us since Kindergarten and have parents, grandparents and relatives who also attended this wonderful neighborhood school. I hope you can find the time to attend the Graduation Ceremony scheduled for Tuesday, May 27, 2014, beginning at 7:30 PM at which time we will celebrate the accomplishments of this fine group of students. Please have your graduates in the school library by 6:45 P.M. To the grads: Congratulations for a job well done -- We are proud of you!

School Calendar

The Chaney-Monge FY 15 school calendar has been approved. It is posted on our website under Mr. Siegfried’s blog http://chaneymonge.us/content/school-calendar-2014-2015. The first attendance day for students is August 20, 2014. If you have any questions regarding the FY15 school calendar, please call the main office or email me at .

Safety

School safety is a top priority at Chaney-Monge School District #88. We continue to meet with the Crest Hill Police Department to review and update safety procedures. In April, we conducted a soft lock down drill while the police dogs went through the building. The drill went as planned and the students and staff followed all the district procedures. The police department gave us two thumbs up for how we ran the drill. Remember to go over weather safety procedures at home this spring. It is not uncommon to see May tornados.

SUMMER ROOF WORK:

The district plans on replacing 2/3 of our roof this summer at a cost of around $500,000. Half of the project will be paid for out of state grants. The other part will be paid by the district.

BIRTHDAY TREATS AND PEANUT ALLERGIES

Due to the many nut allergy (and other allergies) at Chaney Monge School we discourage bringing in food as birthday treats. Some items, even though they do not contain nuts, are manufactured in a facility that handles other peanut items.

Please make sure you read each label to verify it is peanut-free and check with your child’s teacher for other types of allergies that may be in the classroom before sending any food items with your student. As always, each item must be commercially prepared and individually wrapped.

We do suggest that toy or dollar store items, such as pencils, pens, and erasers are a better option that will not jeopardize the health of other students.

Superintendent Note:

I would like to extend a big thank you to the families, students, and staff members of the Chaney Monge family for a great year. It is hard to believe we are approaching the end of a school year. I hope everyone has a great end of the school year and a wonderful summer.

From the Principal – Jackie Hall

8TH GRADE DINNER DANCE

Any parents that could stay after the dance to help take down the decorations would be greatly appreciated. News from Nurse Garza

Attention Students who receive medication at school:

Parents will need to pick up your child’s medication on the last full day of school on June 3, 2014. Medication will not be released to any students. If the medication is not picked up it will be discarded. Thank you.

All Illinois children in Kindergarten, 2nd and 6th grades are required to have an examination by a licensed dentist before May 15th of the school year. That means I must have a Proof of School Dental Examination Form or the Waiver before the 15th of May, 2014.

The Will County Health Department has a dental clinic where you can call to make an appointment for your child to have a dental exam, if you have no family dentist.

If I do not have this form completed by May 15, 2014 by law we can hold his/her final report card.

If your child has seen the dentist within one year of the May 15, 2014 deadline, please bring proof of that examination to the school office.

NEW VACCINATION REQUIREMENTS

To help prevent illness and outbreaks due to vaccine-preventable diseases, Illinois is implementing new immunization requirements for the 2014-2015 school year. Beginning next year, children entering school at any grade level (kindergarten through 12) need to show proof of having received two doses each (instead of just one) of rubella and mumps vaccines. In addition, any child entering kindergarten, sixth grade or ninth grade for the first time shall show proof of having received two doses of varicella (chicken pox) vaccine.

For the following school year, 2015-2016, students will need to show proof of having received a meningococcal vaccination, something that is currently not required.

For school entrance, students must show proof of diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, polio, measles, mumps, rubella, haemophilus influenza type b, hepatitis b, varicella and pneumococcal (depending on age) vaccinations. More information about immunizations, including vaccination schedules, visit www.idph.state.il.us/about/shots/htm.

BODIES, BODIES, EVERYWHERE

With warm weather comes spring showers, budding plants, and sometimes exposed bodies. Our dress code is a very simple, sensible one - ask your child to dress for work. Skimpy outfits are a distraction to our learners. Help us keep the focus on school by supervising the dress of your children. Thank you.

STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK

May 5th through May 9th are days devoted to appreciating the dedication of all members of our school team.

PARENTS!!!

I encourage you to let someone at Chaney-Monge School hear from you this week by passing along praise for our staff who works with commitment for your children.

Chaney-Monge Staff - have a wonderful week of praise. You are an amazing group of people who bring great learning opportunities throughout the year for our students. I can’t tell you often enough of the pride I feel in the work we accomplish together!

Enjoy your Summer Vacation!

7th ANNUAL STATE FAIR

Come one! Come all! The 4th grade classes invite everyone to come to the Sixth Annual 4th Grade State Fair on Thursday, May 15th from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. You will learn interesting facts from students who researched their state, created a colorful and informative display, and are eager to share their knowledge. Plan to browse through the library on your “journey across America” fourth-grade style. Please come to show your support of our 4th grade students, to learn more about our great country, or to find a new vacation spot! Enter through the office doors and follow the signs to the library. You won’t want to miss this!

DANCE CLUB

All are welcome to attend the Dance Club Assembly on Thursday, May 1st at 1:00 PM.

We will have a Pizza Party and all request dancing on the last Dance Club Meeting on Tuesday, May 6th from 2:45 to 3:45 for both groups. Thank you to everyone who participated in dance club this year!
