PERSONNEL ACCOUNTABILITY TEAM (PAT) OPERATIONS

PRACTICAL EXERCISE #1

OBJECTIVE: This practical exercise is designed to evaluate your knowledge of Personnel Accountability Team Operations by applying the rules of allocation and determining the correct PAT structure requirements needed to support a projected force flow.

MATERIALS REQUIRED:

Blank Paper

Pencil

FM 1-0, HR Support

INSTRUCTIONS:

a. Ensure you enter your name, rank, date, and class number on your answer sheet.

b. This practical exercise consists of two scenarios. Read each scenario carefully and determine the correct PAT structure requirements given the projected force flow provided.

c. Once you are finished, turn your answer sheet over and wait for further instructions.

d. YOU HAVE 20 MINUTES TO COMPLETE THIS PRACTICAL EXERCISE.

PERSONNEL ACCOUNTABILITY TEAM (PAT) OPERATIONS

PRACTICAL EXERCISE #1

Scenario #1 (Inter-theater). You are serving as a Human Resources (HR) Planner in the Operations Division of the Human Resources Sustainment Center (HRSC). Your task is to determine the appropriate number and type of personnel accountability (PA) assets needed to execute the PA mission and C2 relationships using the rules of allocation. There is one Inter-theater Aerial Port of Debarkation (APOD) in your area of operations. You have monitored and analyzed the daily personnel flow rates for the various PA categories in both directions and have projected the following average daily flows:

Inbound Outbound

Reception 500 N/A

Individual Replacements 500 N/A

Return to Duty (Outside MTF) 225 N/A

Rest and Recuperation (R&R) 700 700

Redeployments N/A 500

1. What is the appropriate PA structure based on the above information?

2. Due to a projected troop surge and continuing combat operations, your analysis indicates that the average daily personnel flows will increase over the next 12 months to reach the new totals indicated below. What do you project as the future PA structure requirements?

Inbound Outbound

Reception 2000 N/A

Individual Replacements 3000 N/A

Return to Duty (Outside MTF) 2500 N/A

Rest and Recuperation (R&R) 1500 1500

Redeployments N/A 300

PRACTICAL EXERCISE #1

Scenario #2 (Intra-theater). You are serving as an HR Planner in the HROB of the 10th Sustainment Brigade in Iraq. There is an Intra-theater APOD in your brigade’s area of responsibility. You have analyzed the average daily personnel flow rates for the various PA categories in both directions and have projected the figures below. Using the rules of allocation, determine whether the flow rates indicate a need for Theater PA assets to execute the PA mission and, if so, the appropriate PA structure required.

Inbound Outbound

Individual Replacements 100 N/A

Return to Duty’s (Div/Corps MTF) 50 N/A

Rest and Recuperation (R&R) 250 150

Redeployments N/A 25

3. What is the appropriate PA structure based on the above information?

4. Due to a projected troop surge and continuing training and support operations, your analysis indicates that the average daily personnel flows will increase over the next 3 months to reach the new totals indicated below. What do you project as the future PA structure requirements?

Inbound Outbound

Individual Replacements 500 N/A

Return to Duty’s (Div/Corps MTF) 100 N/A

Rest and Recuperation (R&R) 400 150

Redeployments N/A 25
