Selection Policy - 2018

SIAB Cross Country – Wollaton Park (Nottingham)-(24/03/2018)

  • First 8 “past the post” at the Welsh Schools Cross Country Championships (to be held at Brecon on Wednesday, March7th.) to be automatic selections in the Junior and Middle teams to represent the Association at SIAB.
  • The 9th. and 10th. place finishers at the National Championships will be required to be on “standby” for the leadup to SIAB and are also required to report to Team Managers to complete paperwork and indicate availability following races on the 7th.
  • Athletes unable to compete in the Championships will not be considered for selection if ill or injured due to the short lead in time to the SIAB event.

Home Countries International – Wollaton Park (24/03/2018)

  • First 6 eligible athletes “past the post” at the Welsh Schools Cross Country Championships Senior Races if not already included in the Welsh Athletics Team selected after the Welsh Championships. 7th. and 8th. placed athletes will be nominated reserves on the same basis as above.

Virgin Money Giving Mini London Marathon (22/4/2018)

Six teams of 6 pupils will be selected by Friday, March 2nd. The3 selection races are those shown below :-

  1. Inter Schools XC Championships (Brecon), November 18th. 2017).
  2. Welsh Inter Regional XC (venue tbc), December 9th. 2017.
  3. Welsh Cross Country Championships (Swansea), February 24th. 2018).

ATHLETES ARE REMINDED THAT THERE IS NO REQUIREMENT TO COMPETE IN ALL SELECTION RACES – BUT THEY ARE EXPECTED TO TAKE PART IN AT LEAST ONE TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR SELECTION.

Age groupings used in London are Under 13 (school years 7 & 8), Under 15 (9 & 10) and Under 17 (11 & 12). Team selection to be decided by a 3 strong selection panel (made up of the Event Co-ordinator and 2 selectors nominated at the Welsh Schools AGM held in November 2017).

The following will be contacted (by letter) as soon as is practicable following selection:

  • The 6 athletes from the Under 13, 15 and 17 age groupings who successfully came through selection.
  • The 4 standby reserves who will be placed on a reserve listing (athletes will also be advised of their position on that list).

Athletes on the reserve listing are reminded that there is no guarantee that vacancies will arise.
