A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE MRS. BARBARA B. STONE, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE GREENVILLE COUNTY DISABILITIES AND SPECIAL NEEDS BOARD, FOR HER THIRTY YEARS OF CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE BOARD ON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT.
Whereas, Mrs. Barbara B. Stone has served as the first and only Executive Director of the Greenville County Disabilities and Special Needs Board since 1969; and
Whereas, Mrs. Stone was instrumental in the establishment of the state’s first Mental Retardation Board, which became the model for county boards throughout the State, and later was expanded to Disabilities and Special Needs Board; and
Whereas, Mrs. Stone has been responsible for the development of a wide range of programs and services for individuals with disabilities and special needs. Her work and pioneer efforts have enhanced human service programs throughout the State; and
Whereas, beginning with no funds, no facilities, and limited public awareness of the problems of individuals with disabilities, the Greenville County Disabilities and Special Needs Board, through Barbara Stone’s leadership, has developed quality services that have helped make the lives of hundreds of our special citizens much happier; and
Whereas, her perseverance, commitment, and dedication to persons with disabilities have won this dear and caring lady the love and admiration of all whose lives touched hers. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize Mrs. Barbara B. Stone, Executive Director of the Greenville County Disabilities and Special Needs Board, for her thirty years of contributions to the board on the occasion of her retirement.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Barbara B. Stone.
