Thank you for choosing Guide Dogs as your service provider. This edition of My Insight covers what you need to know about the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and how Guide Dogs can assist you in navigating this system.

You will also find out about social groups available to you including Music Appreciation Group, Carers Support Group, Transition Group and the brand new Technology Peer Support Group. These groups are a wonderful way to learn new things, connect with others, share experiences, and socialise.

If you or someone you know has a hearing loss, learn about hearing assistive devices available on loan. Finally, if you have a hearing or vision loss, discover some of the upcoming accessible events available to you.

Free captioned movie for Hearing Awareness Week

Haven't been to the movies for a while because you have trouble hearing the soundtrack? Join us for a free captioned screening of ‘Ghostbusters’ organised by Hearing Awareness Week and Hoyts Norwood.

Ever wanted to experience a sensory walking tour of the Adelaide Central Market, or go behind closed doors at the Adelaide Oval? Our city is becoming more accessible thanks to Access2Arts. 30 x 30 is an exciting new project brought to you by Access2Arts opening up an accessible world of arts, culture, recreation, leisure and sport.

National Disability Insurance Scheme - what you need to know

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is being rolled out across Australia. The changes to disability services are highly significant and will change the way services are accessed and provided. To assist you in navigating this change, Guide Dogs has a staff member Kristina, available on ensuring your transition to the NDIS is informed, smooth and effective. There will be information sessions in the up and coming months open for people wanting to access our services, including Vision Services, Hearing Services, Coordination of Supports and Guide Dog Services.

Do you want to test a device to help your hearing?

The Guide Dogs Hearing Services team has a range of assistive listening, alerting and communication devices available for short-term loan.

A client who trialled a device in her workplace reported that the device “made my life so much easier and I didn’t feel so tired after work as I didn’t have to lip read as much.”

Your Support Line is a free telephone service where you can talk to our staff about sensory impairment and find out detailed information about programs we have that can support you or a family member. We're #morethandogs.

The line is open from 8.30am - 5pm, Monday to Friday.
