Mrs. bull/2016-2017
Course Outline:
The purpose of this course in Statistics is to introduce students to the major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data. This is a one semester Intro to Probability and Statistics course that is spread out over our academic school year. Students will be exposed to four broad conceptual themes:
- Exploring Data: Observing patterns and departures from patterns
- Planning a Study: Deciding what and how to measure
- Anticipating Patterns: Producing models using probability theory and simulation.
- Statistical Inference: Confirming models
Students successfully completing this course will receive a high school math credit, with the option of also obtaining 3 college credits through NiagaraUniversity’s NUSTEP program. Please visit find out more information. Registration for college credit is done online through that website, from Sept 1 – Sept 30. TI-83/84 Graphing Calculator:
THIS CALCULATOR IS AN ESSENTIAL PIECE OF EQUIPMENT FOR THIS COURSE. I HAVE SOME AVAILABLE FOR CLASS USE, BUT IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT YOU PURCHASE ONE, OR BORROW ONE FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR, AND BRING IT WITH YOU TO CLASS EVERYDAY.
Textbook: Statistics: Unlocking the Power of Data
PARENTS: Please feel free to call or email me with any concerns you may have throughout the school year (478-4450 Ext. 5223) or . Email is probably your best mode of communication since I check that daily. You may keep this page and just return the next with email address and signature.
