Farm to Early Education Program Specialist

JOB TITLE: Farm to Early Education Program SpecialistSTATUS: Exempt

REPORTS TO: Farm to Early EducationProgram ManagerDATE: April 2016

Position Summary: The Farm to Early Education Specialistwill implement the Iowa AEYC Farm to Early Education Program, under the direction of the Farm to Early Education Coordinator.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Implement the Farm to Early Education Program and its resources in compliance with the contract.
  1. Conduct efforts to engage partners, programs, and potential funders to address issues involving access to locally grown, healthy foods.
  1. Recruit and develop the statewide Farm to Early Education Coalition.
  1. Organize and lead meetings of the Farm to Early Education Coalition members.
  1. Assist Farm to Early Education Coordinator in planning, developing, and providing professional development for the Coalition.
  1. Develop and provide professional development for schools, centers, and home providers to engage families in efforts toward healthy nutrition and fitness.
  1. Assist Coordinator to complete grant progress reports and evaluate program effectiveness.
  1. Coordinate site visits for potential project replication.
  1. Coordinate professional development, travel arrangements, special projects, and/or events; and schedule meetings.
  1. Support other projects of Iowa AEYC, and perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood, Human Services, Nutrition, Sociology, Community planning, Sustainable Agriculture, or related field required. Two years or more experience in project management, food systems, or community development preferred.Proficient use of a computer and MS Office applications; professional demeanor and appearance; above average interpersonal skills; and ability to get along with individuals at all levels required.Must be self-directed and able to take initiative.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed largely in an office environment with little chance for personal injury. Frequent travel is required for meetings and visiting program sites. Position requires access to transportation to locations across the state. Deadline pressure is an integral part of the job. Frequent mental and visual concentration is necessary for computer usage and reading/assimilating information. Work hours40 hours a week, with evening and weekend presentations on a regular basis. There will be some variation in work hours due to special projects, deadlines, and other concerns.

Equipment Operated:

Use of computer and printer for word processing, keyboard, telephone, fax, office copier, and other general office equipment, with skills in use of spreadsheets, e-mail, Internet/Intranet access, and other specific applications.
