Welcome to Geometry! This is going to be a great year and by June I’m sure you will be amazed at the skills and understanding you will have mastered. If you have any questions, now or as the year progresses, please let me know.

CLASS POLICIES: All policies in the PVHS Student Handbook apply in this class. In addition:
Be considerate of each other and especially of any visitors/substitutes to the classroom.
Bring these every day: HOMEWORK, NOTEBOOK, PENCIL, PEN, CLASS NOTES
We have books in the classroom, leave yours at home.
Cell phones, computers, etc.: MUST BE TURNED OFF DURING LECTURES AND GRADED EVENTS.

GRADING: POINTS FOR EACH UNIT (6 units each semester) GRADES:
Homework*/Quizzes: ~15 - 20 pts 100% – 90% A
Assessments: 100 pts ea 80% – 89% B
Total Points per Unit: ~120 70% – 79% C
Final Exam: 200 pts
*HOMEWORK: Homework will be reviewed and corrected daily with a pen and collected randomly for grading. If you honestly attempt the problems you get the points: draw a figure and label parts/pieces, use pencil, show work/write legibly, and make corrections during the review. If you leave a problem blank or don’t follow the directions above you will not receive full credit.
Homework will be about 15% of your grade! These points depend totally on your individual effort/participation in the class. There will be no “extra credit” available to raise your grade at the end of the semester.
ABSENCES: Generally, you will have 1 additional class to complete missed work for excused absences. If absent, get the assignment from classmates to stay up with the work - come in for help! .
ALL TESTS ARE PRECEEDED BY A REVIEW DAY AND THE REVIEW PROBLEMS ARE ASSIGNED 1-2 CLASSES PRIOR TO THE TEST. IF YOU MISS THE REVIEW CLASS BEFORE THE TEST YOU STILL TAKE THE TEST ON TEST DAY. IF YOU MISS A TEST THEN YOU TAKE THE MAKEUP ON THE FIRST DAY BACK TO CLASS.
SUPPLIES: 3-Ring Binder with 8 ½ by 11 lined paper for notes and homework – NO SPIRALS , Graph Paper, Pencils and Eraser – homework is always done in pencil, Red Pens for grading homework,
Straightedge (ruler), “Geometer” (available in student store - for drawing geometric figures), Compass, and Scientific Calculator – you are not required to have a graphing calculator.
