18 REARING CALVES

10.30 am – Auctioneer: Ben Baggott

Numbers very depleted due to the zones, thanks to those who continue to support us through these different times and to those who continue to hold stock patiently waiting for the zones to change.

G M Lambert, Tetbury consigned blue heifer calves at £195, £195 and £200. R J Taylor, Leighterton sold blue bulls at £295 heifers at £205. R J Handley consigned Friesian bulls to top at £70, Stroud Green Farms consigned Simmental heifers at £110 - £128 with a wonderful run of Limousin bulls from Anton Smith at £300 and £280 same breed heifers again well sold, £170, £150 and £155. Roy Townsend also consigned good calves topping at £182 with 2 strong Friesians £95 and £92. No weaned calves on offer.

85 STORE CATTLE

11.30 am - Auctioneer: Arthur White

Another very good trade for short entry (due to effect of blue tongue zones). 9 Organic Hereford x stores also from Rob Jones sold to £870 (135) for Hereford steers with other £695 (139) with his Hereford x heifers £568 (120).

Several larger consignments today included John Spencer, Limousin x suckler steers selling at £715 (June 07) (179). Christopher Sturdy’s 19 Charolais x steers and heifers (March/April 07 born) with his steer’s £740 (188) and heifers £600 (156).

Alfie Jones 18 Hereford x steers and heifers (named sires) selling to £745 (Nov 06) (142) £670 (Dec 06) (143) and the heifers £565 (Dec 06) (123).

John Crew’s Simmental x steers sold to £848 (June 06) (132) £780 (April 06) (144) £720 (July 06) (152).

Overage Hereford x steers from John Shayle sold to £520 (Sept 05) (101).

Steers ranged from £275 to £870 to average £622.

Heifers £272 to £600 to average £487

Bulls £240 to £848 to average £551

350 PRIME SHEEP

10.00 am – Auctioneer: Jon Pullin

Another firm trade in comparison to other centres earlier in the week, but buyers more selective on quality so lamb selection oat the right weights and finish now very important to maximise returns.

115 light lambs (upto 39 kg) avg 136ppkg topping at 141, £53.20 for M/s Hamiltons

200 standard lambs forward averaged 134ppk ranging 124 to a top of 142, £58.80 for E G Price, Forcester. The 315 prime lambs averaged 134.54 throughout.

A few heavier lambs sold to £55 (118p) from Steven Hazell and some very smart 50kg + lambs from C I & R Mills made 128ppkg £70.

23 CULL EWES

10.30 am – Auctioneer: Jon Pullin

Few about, but a good trade for those on offer, best ewes topped at £45 for T E Jackson average £33.

46 BEEF CATTLE

11.00 am – Auctioneer: Jon Pullin

A good red market entry met a tougher trade today as prime beef becomes more difficult to sell at recently improved prices. 35 steers averaged 123.15 ppkg topping at 156 for best types on offer. Top of the day from Alan Smith, Nympsfield grossing £964.

11 heifers averaged 126 ppkg topping at 134 £806 again from Alan Smith.

H Smith, Moreton in Marsh consigned 550-630 kg Continental steers trading 120-130 ppkg, B J Fords native breed steers 116 pkg.

Friesian steers on offer from P Jones & Partners to 115ppkg.

18 BARREN COWS & OTM CATTLE

11.30 am – Auctioneer: Jon Pullin

Good trade, but in line with fat cattle and back a tough on the week.

Cows averaged 99p topping at 116p for Alan Smith.

5 steers to 120p £700 for P James & Partners, heifers to 122 £817 again from Alan Smith.

3 Bulls forward toped at £927 from G t Van Der Gucht.
