OPTIMIST CLUB OF DANVILLE ORATORICAL CONTEST SCHOLARSHIP
The Optimist Club of Danville Oratorical Contest is open to students in grades 9-12 under the age of 19 as of December 31 of the 2013-2014 academic year. The contest is open to the first twenty applicants.

The Alpha Gamma Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, an organization forwomen teachers, sponsors a $500 grant-in-aid award to a deserving female student who is planning to further her education in the area of teaching.

The URW Community Federal Credit Union will grant five scholarships to 2014 graduating high school seniors who are continuing their education at an accredited college or recognized institution of higher learning beginning fall 2014.

- A graduating senior
- Entering an accredited college, university or other recognized institution of higher learning

THE WEBSTER AND ELIZABETH MARSHALL SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
The Webster and Elizabeth Marshall Award awarded annually to a student who graduates from a high school in the Danville Public Schools and attends Averett University. The award is in memory of Webster Marshall and in honor of Elizabeth Marshall, to fulfill their desire to support education by assisting Danville Public Schools graduates who wish to continue their education at Averett University.

The Virginia Association for Pupil Transportation (VAPT) provides the Sonny Merryman Memorial Scholarship named in memory of Floyd W. (Sonny) Merryman, Jr. who founded a bus dealership serving the transportation industry.

- Be a Virginia public school senior who has a parent or grandparent currently or formerly employed in the public school transportation field in Virginia
- Have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0
- Have demonstrated outstanding leadership skills in the school and community

Kids’ Chance of Virginia (KCVA) provides college scholarships to the children of Virginia workers killed, severely or fatally injured in a workplace related accident.

SARA LANIER TABB OLIVER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
The Sara Lanier Tabb Oliver Memorial Scholarship is a renewable scholarship endowed by the TOWN foundation. Sara Oliver and her husband, Thomas, both attended James Madison University. He was from a poor family and made a promise to himself that if ever he became successful, he would see to it that others did not have to endure a similar struggle to receive a college education.
Eligibility:The applicant must:
- Female
- An in-coming freshman (high school senior)
- Exhibits extreme financial need
- File the FAFSA – ideally received at the processing center by March 1, 2014

VIRGINIA SHERIFF’S INSTITUTE SCHOLARSHIP
The Virginia Sheriff’s Institute Scholarship program provides an opportunity for young people in Virginia to pursue an educational curriculum in law enforcement or criminal justice. The scholarship is available to students in jurisdictions where sheriffs participate in the scholarship fundraising efforts. Students in this jurisdiction are eligible to receive the scholarship.
Eligibility:The applicant must:
- Live in a locality where the sheriff is a member of the Virginia Sheriffs’ Institute and has authorized the Institute to conduct a direct mail special appeal to raise funds for the scholarship program
- Major in the criminal justice field (those majoring in law or pursuing a career as a lawyer will not be considered as a criminal justice major)
- Attend a Virginia college
