Catalog description:

An introduction to Great Basin College and its programs and services; an introduction to essential aspects of the college experience in order to promote student success. (No prerequisites.) .5 credits.

Course Goal:

The goal of INT 100 is to introduce students to Great Basin College and its programs and services so that they can achieve their educational goals. INT 100 also serves as a way to provide ongoing support by building community and culture among students.

Method of Instruction:

Information will be presented through lecture, classroom discussion, campus tour, and GBC websites.

Out-of-Class Orientation Tasks:

Students will be expected to complete some assigned outside tasks on their own to pass the class.

Grading:

Grading will be on the Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory system. To receive passing grades in this class, students must complete all of the following:

·  Attend the entire GBC INT 100 Orientation.

·  Show evidence of meeting with an Advisor by Friday, September 2, 2016.

·  Show completion of placement exams, ACT or SAT scores by Friday, September 2, 2016.

Incomplete assignments will result in “U” and student will have to repeat this course.

Student Outcomes / Measurements
1. Student will become familiar with the GBC website, campus, departments, and programs. / Completion of campus tour.
Regular class attendance.
2. Student will meet with an advisor and become familiar with Academic Advisement Report. / Signature of academic and/or faculty advisors.
3. Students will be introduced to the academic policies of Great Basin College. / In class study of General Catalog and Class Schedule.
4. Students will learn to access the student support services, study skill strategies, and navigate “MyGBC”. / Attendance of Student Services discussions; issuance of Student ID and Library Card, library virtual tour, and log into MyGBC to verify personal information and advisor.
6. Students will learn about the policies that govern student life as well as the services available to them as students. / Attendance of Student Life/SGA discussions.
7. Students will learn about GBC WebCampus/website. / Attendance of GBC WebCampus /website discussions.
8. Students will have taken or will take a placement test, such as the ACT, SAT or Accuplacer. / Provide print out of scores or official signature on the Orientation Completion Form.

This course is required of all first-time students taking 12 or more credits. It is also a graduation requirement for all Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, and Associate of Applied Science degrees for students entering under the Fall 2000 catalog and thereafter. Part-time students are not required to take this course their first semester of enrollment, but they are encouraged to take it as soon as possible; it is required for graduation.

CAMPUS SECURITY:GBC is committed to the safety of our students and has a duty to promote awareness and prevention programs for violence on campus under the Jeanne Clery Act as well as the Campus SaVE (Sexual Violence Elimination Act) and VAWA (Violence Against Women Act), which are amendments to Clery.
