ENG 4U Summative Assignment
Preparation:
- Select a subject focal area (choose something in which you are genuinely interested)
- Write a paragraph-style proposal regarding why you believe that this is an important subject to address and what lessons / messages you are hoping to convey through your presentation.
- Review at least three videos pertaining to your subject (include a video bibliography) and select the one which best suits your purpose.
- Submit a paragraph outlining your rationale for choosing one above the others
Presentation: (8 to 10 minutes)
Part A: Introduce your subject area and the reasons behind your choice. Briefly summarize your TED video (show selected clips as necessary).
Part B: Highlight the overall theme / message presented and explain how the video talk (presenter) successfully conveys this message. Explain how the presenter uses oral presentation techniques to teach/convince his/her audience. Show supporting clips from the video
Part C: Explain how and why your subject is connected to elements of conflict /controversy . . . Be sure to reference current event. Examine how the controversial elements are presented and developed and how conflict is linked to thematic elements. Demonstrate how the presenter uses oral techniques to highlight conflict points.
- Your presentation must include a visual aid (besides the TED video footage) to which you will refer throughout your 8 to 10 minute talk.
- Your visual aid must address the elements of both theme and conflict and contribute towards a strong oral delivery.
