JOB DESCRIPTION

Job purpose: To maximise income and support for CAFOD from medium and large UK and International trusts and foundations, managing and developing current and prospective relationships to achieve this and to support the Major Gifts Coordinator to maximise income from small trusts and foundations and corporates. In addition, he/she may have responsibility for a number of individual major donors that give through Trusts that are involved with or being approached as part of the Development Board campaign.

Job scope: The post is based within the Major Gifts Section which is part of the Fundraising and Marketing Department.

Accountability: The post-holder reports to the Head of Major Gifts and Philanthropy.

Staff reporting to this post: the Major Gifts Assistant

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Line Management:

In line with CAFOD’s management standards:

·  Provide motivation and support for the Major Gifts Coordinator

·  Encourage the MGC to use their time in the most cost-effective way and to identify opportunities to increase support from existing and prospective major donors

·  Ensure that appraisals, objective setting, personal development goals, training and, if necessary, any disciplinary proceedings are carried out.

Strategy Development:

·  To develop, with the support of the Head of Major Gifts and Philanthropy and input from the Major Gifts Section where appropriate, the Trusts and Foundations Strategy and Annual Plans

·  To contribute to the development of annual income forecasts for trusts as part of the Major Gifts Section’s income and expenditure forecasts.

·  To contribute to the development of the overall Major Gifts Strategy

Relationship Management and Cultivation:

·  To research and evaluate new prospective trust and foundation donors and to work with the Head of Major Gifts and Philanthropy to develop appropriate approach strategies.

·  To work closely with International Division programme staff in identifying CAFOD projects and programmes that meet the funding interests of donors and prospects.

·  To cultivate relationships with CAFOD’s existing and prospective trusts and foundations, including individual trustees where appropriate, through a combination of written, telephone and face to face communications in order to ensure long-term support and commitment.

·  To prepare well targeted funding applications and to produce timely narrative and financial reports

·  To prepare project budgets and to monitor expenditure when reporting back to funders.

·  To acknowledge promptly donations from trusts.

·  To work with other members of the Section, especially the Major Donor Coordinator and Major Gifts Coordinator in planning and preparing mailings to smaller trusts.

·  To work closely with CAFOD’s Programme Development and Funding Officers (PDFOs) in coordinating approaches to trust funders with those made to CAFOD’s institutional funders.

·  To work collaboratively with the other members of the Section: in support of key major donor meetings/events, partaking in Section meetings and quarterly reviews of work, and representing the Section at meetings as delegated by the Head of Section.

Information Management:

·  To monitor on a regular basis trusts’ funding interests, income and expenditure trends, information about trustees, application procedures etc.

·  To maintain up to date records of all communications with trusts and to ensure that all information is recorded accurately on the database.

·  To keep up to date on external developments in trusts fundraising and to participate in the Institute of Fundraising Trusts Special Interest Group.

·  To take responsibility for maintaining and administering current office systems

Other:

·  To contribute to the other aspects of CAFOD’s work where necessary, including sharing in divisional and CAFOD-wide forums, as agreed with the Head of the Department.

·  An essential requirement for all members of the Major Gifts Section is to keep donor information that is not in the public domain strictly confidential.

All CAFOD staff are expected to:

·  Attend and contribute to regular Section, Department and CAFOD-wide meetings and briefings

·  Participate in training and other activities as requested by their line manager

·  Welcome visitors.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Contract: A permanent full-time contract is offered subject to successful completion of a six-month probationary period.

Salary: Grade P: £30,359 – £33,394. Starting salary according to skills and experience.

Hours: 35 hours per week. Normal CAFOD office hours are 9.30 to 5.30 with one hour for lunch. This post will require some weekend and evening work for which time off in lieu is available.

Holidays: 20 working days per annum plus statutory holidays plus 6 days determined by CAFOD at Christmas/Easter.

Notice period: Three months either way after completion of the probationary period.

Pensions: There is an optional contributory pension scheme (10% employer and 5% employee contribution). Alternatively, CAFOD will make a similar contribution to a Personal Pension Plan.
