A survey of self-reported use of kinesiology taping for management of symptoms related to cancer by healthcare professionals.
Invitation
Healthcare professionalsare being invitedto take part in the questionnaire survey, which is being undertaken as part of a PhD project by Mr Gourav Banerjee. Before you (healthcare professional) decide whether or not you would like to take part, it is important for you to understand why the research is being done and what it will involve. Please take the time to read the following information carefully. It is entirely up to the health professional to decide whether or not to participate.
What is the purpose of the study?
The aim of this survey is to gather insights into the self-reported use of kinesiology taping for the management of symptoms related to cancer by healthcare professionals working in oncology and or palliative / supportive care. We are also interested in gathering information from healthcare professionals that currently do not use kinesiology taping. The online survey should take approximately 10 to15 minutes to complete.
What are the possible disadvantages and risks of taking part?
There is no risks or disadvantages to you if you complete the questionnaire. The research has been categorised ‘low risk’ and the questions are not designed to be of a sensitive nature. However should you feel uncomfortable answering questions at any point, please feel free to stop and exit the survey. Yourwithdrawal will have no negative consequences.The survey is being conducted via popularweb-based software (Snap Surveys), which iscertified for security. The online software uses ‘cookies’for user authentication and efficient functioning but does not store or collect personal data. The cookies can be ‘cleared’ from your web browseronce you have completed the survey.
What are the possible benefits of taking part?
The information gathered in the questionnaire will help to determine the extent of use of kinesiology taping for the management of symptoms related to cancer.
Will my information and answers be kept anonymous and confidential?
The survey is being conducted in accordance with the Leeds Beckett University Ethical Policies and Procedures. We are not asking your name or any details that canreveal your identity; your responses will be collected anonymously. However at survey completion should you decide to supply your email ID to help us in our research in future, we guarantee your information and the data generated from you will be kept confidential and stored in accordance with the UK Data Protection Act, 1998 securely in electronic format(encrypted and password protected) for a period of no more than ten years. Only the research team will have access to your answers. Limits to confidentiality include reporting of negligence and professional misconduct to the concerned body deemed appropriate by the investigating team according to Leeds Beckett University policy on information disclosure.
What will happen to the results of the research study?
The collected data will undergo descriptive analysis to generate frequency counts of responses using SPSS software. The findings of the survey will be written up for the PhD thesis,submitted for publication and may be presented at scientific conferences.
Who is organising and funding the research?
The project is being conducted as part of a PhD project funded by the Jane Tomlinson Appeal. The PhD is registered at Leeds Beckett University, United Kingdom.
Who has reviewed the study?
The survey was categorised as ‘low risk’ and the information soughtis categorised as ‘not sensitive’. The survey has received ethical approval from Leeds Beckett University; ethics documents are available on request.
