1. New MHSAA Physical form is mandatory

The Dearborn Public Schools have mandated the use of the MHSAA Physical form to be eligible to play sports in high school. You cannot practice, tryout, or play without a physical on file, so take care of this sooner rather than later.

2. Activity Fee will likely return in 2013-2014

Pending school board approval, the activity fee for students involved in extracurricular activities will return in 2013-2014. The most current version is students paying $100 for unlimited participation in sports during the 2013-2014 school year, and receiving a student sports pass as part of the $100 fee. The tentative due date for this $100 will be picture day for your specific sport. Sports passes will be sold through the athletic office, not through the main office.

7. Staying Eligible

1. MHSAA requires that a student pass at least 4 classes each semester to be eligible under their rules.

2. Dearborn Public Schools requires students to maintain a minimum 2.000 GPA each marking period to be eligible under their rules. WE ONLY CHECK GRADES AT THE END OF EACH MARKING PERIOD.

8. Responsibility as an Athlete

--Remember, when you go out in the community wearing your DHS swag, like it or not, you are representing your team and our school. Your behavior does matter.

--Remember, social media has a huge role in today’s society, but what you put out there is typically forever. Inappropriate photos, comments taken out of context, etc. are all part of the deal.

--Remember, academics always take priority over athletics, but you also have to be able to budget your time appropriately to be successful at both.

--Remember, excuses after the fact are not a good thing – be proactive.

--Remember, do the right thing the right way . . .

9. Interesting Trivia??

--In 2012-2013, 607 students at Dearborn High School played at least one sport. We had 188 two sport athletes and 78 three sport athletes.

--Average GPA of a DHS Athlete: 3.371/Average GPA of a DHS Student: 2.654

--Average ACT score of a DHS Athlete: 23.3/Average ACT score of a DHS Student: 20.1

--In 2012-2013, 111 of our student-athletes were named to the WWAC All-League All-Academic team. Those are juniors and seniors who have a cumulative GPA of 3.300 or higher.

--In 2012-2013, Dearborn High School varsity teams won 8 WWAC league championships, 1 MHSAA district championship, and 1 MHSAA regional championship. Also, two teams (girls golf and girls tennis) and nine individuals (1 girls swimmer, 1 girls track and field athlete, and 7 boys track and field athletes) represented Dearborn High at the MHSAA state finals.

10. Looking to earn some extra $$$?

We are always looking for workers for home athletic events – scorers, timers, ball boys and ball girls, etc. Let me know if you are interested as these are paid positions.

11. 2013-2014 – As a student-athlete, take the “One Challenge”

The “One Challenge” is pretty simple – make it your goal, as a Dearborn High student-athlete, to see each of our athletic teams play at least one time during the course of the school year. And, see the band and choir perform at least once and attend at least one theater performance. Why is this a challenge? We have 42 athletic teams that compete during the course of the school year . . .

12. DHS Athletic Booster Club

Make sure your parents join the Booster Club – and they should buy a family athletic pass if they plan on coming to more than 5 games during the school year – it will pay for itself. Membership information is available at http://www.dhsathleticboosterclub.org/. Also, the Booster Club will be looking for volunteers to work concessions during the fall and winter seasons – community service hours will be available.
