Dear Parents/Guardians of SOA 8th Grade Students,
All Charleston County School District 8th grade students will participate in the ACT EXPLORE test onOctober 9th and 10th. The ACT EXPLORE test is free. This national assessment is the first component of the ACT test and students take approximately two hours to complete it. This test gives our 8th graders the opportunity to explore a wide range of options as they prepare for high school coursework and beyond. It also provides relevant information on how well prepared students are for their education during and beyond high school.

The results of the EXPLORE test will be discussed during Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) meetings. The results of this test are important to your child as s/he plans for the future, and also to our school district, as these results provide valuable information about the performance of our entire 8th grade student body. EXPLORE test results, along with other assessment data, are used for acceptance into some CCSD magnet schools and could be used for placement into honors courses. Scores should be ready for magnet application purposesby mid to late November, 2013.CCSD magnet schools are aware results will be available after the November 1st application deadlines.
In preparation for the test, please encourage your child to take this test seriously and make every effort to do their best. Please also make sure that your child comes to school well rested and nourished on the days of the test.
