POSITION:Regional SOAR Coordinator

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the Regional Coordinator of the Supplemental Security Income/Social Disability Income (SSI/SSDI) Outreach, Access and Recovery (SOAR) program in the Mental Health Planning and Policy Region Six and Seven (6 and 7).
  • Edit and support SSI and SSDI benefits applications prepared by anyone in the region submitted for people experiencing homelessness to assure applications from this region are complete and approvable
  • Convene and leads local SOAR support meetings to advise and encourage those working with the people experiencing homelessness in preparing and submitting complete and appropriate applications
  • Accumulate and report to the State’s Office of Housing and Homeless Services the number of SOAR applications submitted in the region; the percentage of these applications that are approved on the first submission; and the time between submission of the application and notification of its initial approval or disapproval
  • Serve as a liaison between people submitting SOAR applications and the Social Security Administration and Eligibility Determination offices
  • As time allows, prepares and submits individual SOAR applications on behalf of other applicants
  • Actively participate in monthly SOAR call to build the Regional community collaborative, while soliciting ways to continuously improve the Region 6 and 7 process and serve the SOAR mentally ill homeless population more efficiently
  • Develop and maintain a positive, professional relationship with the homeless and mental health providers.
  • Present with strong oral and written skills, in addition to solid organization, and community relations skills.

Education/Equivalent Experience/Certification/Licenses:

  • BA/BS in Social Work, Psychology, or other Behavioral Science
  • Experience working with mentally ill or dually diagnosed individuals. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Knowledge of homeless outreach programs.
