Monday---Lesson 1-1: Spatial Patterns for Numbers to 10

Common Core Standard: 1.OA.1

Objective: Students will recognize two-part spatial patterns of numbers.

  1. Daily Common Core Review: Teacher will place worksheet D1.1 from black Resource Masters workbook under the document camera and the class will discuss questions from the worksheet.

2. Develop the Concept: Interactive

Materials: two part pattern cards teaching tool 8, 10 counters teaching tool 14, packet pg. 3

The teacher will use Topic 1 Lesson 1 packet pg. 3 Spatial Patterns for Numbers to 10 and questions in teacher’s guide pg. 3 to develop the concept in interactive style by drawing students Popsicle stick names out to help with the activity. Students will be shown a dot pattern and are asked to arrange counters on the workmat to match the pattern. Students will determine how you can use a pattern to find a number of objects without counting.

3. Develop the Concept: Visual

Teacher will use Topic 1 Lesson 1 packet pgs. 4-5 and teacher’s guide pg. 4-5 questioning to do the visual learning and guided practice together.

Teacher will also place reteaching 1-1, practice1-1, and enrichment 1-1 worksheet pgs. from Teacher’s Resource Masters black book under the document camera for students to practice together.

  2. Develop the Concept: Interactive

Teacher will use Topic 1 packet pg. 7 and 6 counters then 7 counters dropped over a paper plate to model counters inside and outside for the whole 6 and 7

Students (drawn out with Popsicle sticks) will do the same with 6 then 7 counters and a paper plate and record their answers. Students will develop the concept of how the numbers 6 and 7 can be described by their parts.

  1. Develop the Concept: Visual

Teacher will use Topic 1 packet pg. 8-9 to model for students the number inside and the number outside make the whole and to also model the guided practice for students.

  1. Formative Assessment: Teacher will place the Quick Check Master 1-2 worksheet from the black Assessment Sourcebook under the document camera. Students will write down problems from the sheet and solve. Class will discuss what answers that they should have marked for each problem. Student work will be sent home except for a couple of work samples for the assessment notebook.
