MATERIALS NEEDED:

--CLIL Project 7D handout

--A big piece of paper or cardboard

--Pen/pencil

--Computer (for Internet research)

--Pictures of worldwide problems(Note for teacher: If students are going to work on the project in class, bring information / pictures for them to use or remind them in advance to find information / pictures on the Internet.)

PAIRS Make a poster about the biggest problem facing the world today. Follow the instructions below and use your notes from your pair discussion. (See Student Book, page 139, CLIL Project 7D.)

1 Look at the list of worldwide problems. Make sure you understand what all of them are. Look them up in the dictionary or ask your teacher if necessary.

climate change/global warmingeconomic crisis

human rights abusespoverty

terrorismthe environment or pollution

the rising cost of food and energy the spread of human diseases

violation of workers' rightswar or armed conflict

2 Now rank the worldwide problems above. What do you think the three biggest problems are? (1= the biggest problem) Feel free to add other problems to your list.

3Choose one of the problems. Do research on the Internet to find out more about the problem and why it is so serious. Print out pictures related to the problem.

4 Make a poster to alert people to the threat of the problem you have chosen. Paste your pictures on a large piece of paper. Write a couple of sentences about the problem. Explain what it is and why it is so serious.

For example:

POLLUTION

Pollution is the biggest problem in the world today. Pollution happens when factories and cars send gases into the air. It is a serious problem because it hurts people, animals, and plants…

5 Present your poster to the class and answer questions about it. Have a class discussion about the problems shown in the posters. Do students agree on what the most serious problems facing the world are?
