Setting up a Remote Desktop Connection to access BEIMS

1.  The first prerequisite for full BEIMS access is a current VUW login

2.  The second prerequisite is that your VUW login must be added to the FM-BEIMS RDP access security group. A call must be logged with ITS to have this actioned.

3.  Select Start/All Programs/Accessories/Communications and select Remote Desktop Connection

4.  Enter the following information into the General tab

Computer: beims.vuw.ac.nz

Username: enter your vuw login name

Password: enter your vuw password

Domain: Staff

5.  Check the Save my password box

6.  Click the Save As button and name it BEIMS.rdp

7.  This is what your remote desktop icon on your desktop will look like

8.  To login to BEIMS double click on the remote desktop icon

9.  Select Start and then click on the BEIMS icon

10.  Click the right mouse button over BEIMS and select Send to and then select Desktop (create shortcut)

·  If you do not have BEIMS in your Start list then try going to;
Start/All Programs/BEIMS and right click mouse button over BEIMS and select Send to and then select Desktop (create shortcut)

·  If BEIMS is still not available to be selected, then open My Computer and navigate to D:\Program Files\BEIMS and right click on the BEIMS.exe and select Send to and then select Desktop (create shortcut)

11.  Double click on on your desktop and enter in your BEIMS login and password (remember that the login and password are case sensitive)

When you are forced to change your VUW password every six months you will also need to update your BEIMS Remote Desktop password.

·  Right click on the BEIMS remote desktop icon and select Edit

·  Click on Options and select beims.vuw.ac.nz from the Computer dropdown list if the default is not currently set to this

·  Change the password and click Save As and save the updated remote desktop connect overtop of the previous one as BEIMS.rdp
