SBFL Board of Directors Meeting Minutes

May 13, 2014 – Solana Pacific School

Agenda Items:

1.  Minutes – Bryan Pruden:

a.  The minutes from the March 11, 2014 BOD meeting were approved.

2.  Superintendent’s Update – Nancy Lynch:

a.  Smarter Balanced Field Testing is almost finished. The kids reported liking the testing on the computer.

b.  Jerry Jones has toured families at Solana Ranch.

c.  The Envision Team is leaning towards STREAM (Science, Technology, Research, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics). Chris Riddle added that there will be elements of coding and that sites are making a two-year plan. SBSD is considering having a STREAM TOSA to work with the teachers as is done with the Common Core transition. Nancy confirmed to the BOD that the media center teachers will be credentialed (inquired by Heidi Dewar).

3.  Financials –Kristin Belsky:

a.  The financials for February and March 2014 were voted on and approved.

b.  The Solana Vista/Skyline “Halloween Carnival” budget (attachment) was reviewed and approved. Cecelia Puopolo noted that the site budget will need to be amended to reflect the slightly lower carnival budget.

c.  The SBSD Board Topic of $144,057.60 was approved to donate to SBSD at the May 22nd board meeting (attachment).

d.  The distribution of $4,180.55 was taken from the Rancho Santa Fe Endowment and is currently being held in our non-restricted account.

4.  President’s Report – Bryan Pruden:

a.  The 2014-2015 Board Slate (attached) was reviewed and approved!

b.  Options were discussed and a decision was made regarding the Executive Director’s hourly rate increase (previously approved by the BOD last year) and bonus. Patti will receive a 5% pay increase to $35/hour and a $4,000 bonus for her excellent service.

c.  The Solana Ranch PTO budget was reviewed and approved. There will be one ask and SBFL will be funded before PTA items, therefore an advance of $10,000 will be provided in an account to cover PTA initial activities at the beginning of the year.

d.  Carmel Valley 5K Fun Run has asked SBFL to be involved in the event. SBFL will receive 15% of the registration fees if 100 runners enroll and some of the sponsorship monies. The run will be January 24, 2015 with registration opening on June 1, 2014.

5.  Committee Reports – All:

a.  Solana Vista/Skyline – Corey Ford:

§  The Solana Beach Bash was on May 3rd and made approximately $82,000. Forty percent of the tickets when directly to SBFL.

b.  Solana Pacific – Cathy Pucher:

§  The AFD is a currently behind but the population dropped by 40 students.

c.  Solana Highlands – Jackie Teague for Cara Cadden:

§  The “Denim for Dollars” was budgeted for $28,000 but made $35,000. Solana Highlands donated $1500 to Solana Ranch.

d.  Solana Santa Fe – Misty Thompson:

§  The Technology Drive is complete but less than last year.

e.  Carmel Creek –Atousa Golpayegani:

§  The auction items are slightly less than budget but grade level socials should meet budget.

f.  Marketing – Patti Malmuth for Cindy Burns:

§  Patti provided an update on Cindy’s presentation of the marketing plan “Discovery” to SBSD.

g.  Development – Patti Malmuth:

§  We are waiting for a $10,000 check from Balfour Beatty.

§  The Amazon link is up. Bill Miller suggested a mass email to educate the community on the opportunity (attached). Julie Union commented that she would like to see the district purchase Amazon products through SBFL website.

6.  New Business – Bryan Pruden:

a.  Recognition of Site Presidents, SBFL and PTA Presidents planned for May 22nd at 6:30pm at Solana Pacific.

b.  Strategic Planning planned for Sunday.
