Classroom Management

Background Knowledge: Classroom management is related to the steps teachers take to organize their classroom for optimal learning, engage students in that learning, and minimize behavior that disrupt it.

Directions: Each student will create a project related to classroom management. You will put this together in book format. You will use construction paper for the front and back cover. Complete the project according to the directions given. Each of these must be on separate pages. Everything must be typed. Your classroom management handbook must be in sequential order according to the guidelines. All printing must be done outside of class (home, library, flex labs, etc).

1. Front Cover Page: This information must be typed.

The cover page (see example below) will have the title of the project, a picture that represent classroom management and your title.

2. Class Attendance: This information must be typed

Put in alphabetical order the names of the students in your POE class. You will have four columns and they will be labeled #, student name, male, female. See example.:

3. Schedule of the day:This information must be typed

Each class has a schedule with the times and activities they will do for the day. Look up samples on the Humble ISD websites for elementary school to help assist with this.

4. Classroom Rules: This information must be typed

Develop a set of class rules you think would create an atmosphere that enhances learning. Your list should include four to six general rules.

5. Arranging the Classroom:

Draw by hand the design of your classroom. Be creative by using colors, markers, and map pencils.Classroom must have a teacher desk, at least 20 student desks, storage cabinets, bulletin boards, learning centers (2-3), and class pet.Be creative.

6. Teacher Organizing Ideas from Pintrest/Tumblr:

You will go to the Pintrest/Tumblr website and locate two different types of teacher organizing ideas. One will be on the wall and one will be on the desk.

7. Group Games:This information must be typed

You will need to find threegroup games that you can play with your class.

(1)Is a name game (see sample below)

People introduce themselves and tell what they know about why they have their name (their mother wanted to name me after her great aunt Helen who once climbed Pike’s Peak in high heels, etc.). It could be the first, middle, or nickname.

8. Managing Transitions: This information must be typed

Effective teachers make a real effort to keep downtime to a minimum. Most problems occur during transitions when students are changing from one activity to another.

Listed below are the class procedures you will have for your class. Describe (in written format) how you will handle the transition. Be very specific and detailed oriented. This information needs to be typed. Add space in between each procedure. Each one must be bold, underlined and numbered. Explain in detail.

  4. Students leaving the room
  5. Taking attendance

9. Back Cover Page – Construction paper

Staple the rubric on the back cover page, staple all the pages together on the left side and turn in to the basket.
