BOARD MEETING MINUTESAugust 18, 2010

AGENDA:-I assume someone moved, 2nded and the vote was unanimous. I was late.
PREVIOUS MINUTES: - No minutes, late, geez. Doesn’t happen often and won’t for a long time . . . .
TREASURER’S REPORT:-Ultimate goal to balance income and expenses.
-Want to get feedback from students who went to RYLA (what’s good,
what’s not so good?) We need to have them speak to our club about their
experience. Nick has reservations about budgeting 1,000-1,200. Local
clubs thinking about starting up a program, but it’s hard to put together a
meaningful program. Tom B. likes RYLA, tow people (for companionship)
alternate schools. If funds were limited, he thinks RYLA will have more
impact on student’s than a $500 Scholarship.
-Budget only preliminary – can look at it when it comes up later in the year.
-Greg H. moved to approve, Nick G. 2nded, vote unanimous.
OLD BUSINESS: -501C3: Erik and Tom working on it.
-Grant Application Form: Tabled to next month.
-Siren Wednesday: September 1st, Daniel Arthur’s - we’re bartending, profits to charity.
-Longbranch/Biaggi’s: Appears club favors Longbranch based on surveys.
-Audit: Meeting August 26th – Erik, Duane, Dave N., Jill.
-Swamp Fox Parade: September 18th. More details to follow.
NEW BUSINES:- Adding a Non-Member to a committee: Howie wants to help with membership (has already brought in Shawn D.) – do we add him as an official committee member? Not officially, might make him an Ad Hoc committee member. Approved unanimously, whether there was a motion or not (I must have missed it).
-Non-Member Badges: Howie requested a permanent badge. Permanent Guest Badge = $50.00. Move on . . .
-Interact: Need club Liaison to attend their Board Meetings. Sunrise may be willing to team up to share sponsorship. Need to also get staff member at Linn Mar to participate – key right now.
-Additional Fundraiser: Book Theatre Cedar Rapids performance (individual performance, not buy out scheduled show). 550 seats - $5,500 to buy out theater. Decided on show December 11th – “White Christmas”. Do assigned seats, not general admission. They do coat check, ushers, etc. with volunteers. Can do raffle or auction (not this first time, should just try selling show tickets). Zin’s takes cut for hors duerves. We set start and stop time. Marion Cares interested in going in with us (might be a good source/network for selling tickets). Somebody shouted out, “$30/ticket = $11,000.” There was a whispered gasp, then a hearty cheer as the shuffling of packing up began . . . . off to the next meeting.
