Job Title: Hope into Action Volunteer

Responsible to:City Coordinator

Role within Hope into Action:

  • To offer valuable clerical support to City Coordinator
  • To gain experience of working with vulnerable people.
  • To shadow project workers as they engage with tenants and outside agencies.
  • To undergo training.
  • To play a part in spiritual leadership.

Main Tasks:

1.Supporting City Coordinator

  • Prepare house pack and house rules for tenants.
  • Print & send letters
  • To type up tenant contact sheets
  • To carry out general administration tasks required, i.e. scanning, filing
  • Organize filling and document control
  • Petty cash control
  • To ensure all tenant files are up to date and complete

2.Shadowing

  • Shadow bothCity Coordinator as they set up houses.
  • Shadow City Coordinator in support meetings
  • Help coordinate the establishment of new houses.
  • Assist with any practical tasks that may arise.
  • Take inventories of house and room contents.

3.Undergo Training

  • Create personal development plan in conjunction with the coordinator.
  • Attend such courses as are recommended by the coordinator.
  • Read about current social issues

We expect all post holders to have a good working knowledge of drug and alcohol abuse, safeguarding vulnerable adults, the Criminal Justice System, mental health, domestic abuse, debtmanagement and sex workers.

4.Marketing and Fundraising Training

  • Help with the management of our database In Cambridge
  • Help coordinate events and social media outputsIn Cambridge

5.Spiritual Leadership

  • Devote time to praying for tenants and Hope into Action.
  • Lead and participate in prayer sessions for Hope into Action.

Hope into Action provides housing and high quality support to ex-offenders and vulnerable adults. It does so in partnership with the local church.

Hope into Action aims to attain the highest standard in managing its volunteers, including their recruitment, induction, training, support and continuing professional development.

Hope into Action’s aim is to treat volunteers with professionalism and care. To this end volunteersare offered appropriate support, training and work experience. In addition to this Hope into Action will reimburseall relevant expenses the volunteers incur whilst carrying out their duties.

Set out below is a description of the duties a volunteer would be expected to undertake whilst on placement and a clarification ofthe relationship between Hope into Action and the Volunteer.

Terms & Conditions

Hours:

One volunteer position is being offered of 8 hours a week. These hours can be worked flexibly by agreement with Hope into Action, between the hours of 09:00 and 17:00, Monday to Friday

It is also expected that volunteers will occasionallywork additional hours outside the above times, for example to join team away days or retreats, attend evening prayer meetings,or other promotional events.

Holidays:

25 days pro rata.

Line Management:

Rebekah Bennett will be the line manager for the position being offered. The line managersagrees to provide a strong induction; to set objectives; to train the volunteer in project work, supporting tenants and engaging with agencies. They will also review the volunteers work and set appropriate objectives every month.

Confidentiality:

It is hereby agreed:

1. While working with Hope into Action in either a paid, self-employed or a volunteer capacity and after termination (however caused) of work, you will observe strict secrecy as to the affairs of Hope into Action. This particularly covers client identity, information on Hope into Action database, partners and projects.

2. This information will not be divulged to a third party (except another HIA member authorised to receive this information) during your work with Hope into Action or after you finish working with Hope into Action except in the proper course of your duties or with the written permission of Hope into Action.

Expenses:

Hope into Action will pay all reasonable travel expenses upon production of a receipt. HIA will also pay a lunch on the days the interns work up to a maximum of £3 upon production of receipts.

It is expected that volunteers will find their own accommodation and part-time work to support themselves.
