Field Agronomist


NewLeaf Symbiotics is a St. Louis-based agricultural biologics company engaged in cutting-edge research and product development. Our proprietary technology centers on the development of Methylotrophic Bacteria (M-trophs) and associated members of the phytobiome for plant health applications. Through basic and applied research, we have demonstrated that the application of M-trophs to plants in a prescribed manner and concentration generate crops that grow faster, yield better, and possess increased resilience to biotic and abiotic stressors.

SUMMARY

NewLeaf Symbiotics is seeking an agronomist that has field and lab experience to join our growing research team as a research associate, Field agronomist. This position will report to the Agronomy/Biology Manager and assist with day-to-day management of the agronomy research program, as well as perform research in development of beneficial bacteria for increased plant health, pest mitigation and nutrient optimization. Expertise in designing and implementing small plot field trials, growth chamber, and greenhouse assays is required. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, innovative, excel in written and verbal communication, and possess experience in mentoring and managing others. NewLeaf would like to have the candidate plan for a start date in early January, 2018.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·  Establish and manage field research a field research program that evaluates M-trophs on a variety of crops. Primary is focus is on Corn, Soybean, and Wheat but is not limited to these three.

·  Determine and demonstrate the value, positioning, and agronomic fit of NewLeaf products in current production systems.

·  Actively participate and lead protocol development and product advancement decisions.

·  Establish and manage field research to assess novel pipeline biotechnology traits in corn, soybean and other crops.

·  Contract and coordinate academic and crop consultant research.

·  Ensure regulatory compliance with broad Federal and State regulatory requirements.

·  Ensure timely data entry and quality.

·  Provide product and agronomic support for internal research team.

·  Build strong working relationships with key influencers internally and external.

·  Identify and assess new uses for M-trophs technology based business opportunities.

·  Trouble-shoot and optimize assays for improved efficiency and efficacy.

REQUIREMENTS

·  B.S. or MS degree in Plant Breeding, Agronomy, Weed Science, Entomology, Pathology, or related discipline

·  Hands on production experience with corn, soybean or other field crops.

·  Effectively demonstrate self-motivation, initiative, assertiveness, and results orientation.

·  Successfully work in a fast-paced changing environment.

·  Ability to successfully work in diverse teams.

·  Willingness to relocate or be based in St. Louis, Mo.

·  Strong people and communication skills.

·  Good computer skills (i.e. Microsoft Office and Cloud Based Programs).

·  Ability to lift 60 pounds if necessary (a bag of seed).

·  Ability to pass a driving record background check (i.e. moving violations, accidents, license suspension, etc.).

·  Expertise in experimental design and use of JMP, or similar statistical software package.

·  Strong critical-thinking ability with proficiency in trouble-shooting.

·  Innovative and entrepreneurial mind-set.

·  Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively in a multi-talented team.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

·  Background with plant physiology. (Especially in Corn, Soybean, Wheat, and other Major Row and / or Horticulture cropping systems.)

·  Prior experience with Gylling Data Management’s, ARM software.

·  Prior employment in a fast-paced industry setting.

·  Have or can obtain Missouri Pesticide Applicators License and FAA Part 107 Drone Pilot License.
