Position/Title: VITA Volunteer Greeter

General Description:
The primary responsibility of the VITA Volunteer Greeter is to welcome clients to the VITA tax site, explain intake forms and processes, verify that clients have all appropriate documentation, and assist with any questions regarding United Way or VITA. The VITA Volunteer Greeter provides support to the VITA Volunteer Tax Preparers and MFT Volunteer Tax Assistants. The VITA Volunteer Greeter works with the VITA Volunteer Site Coordinator to ensure that each VITA center is fully operational and conforms to IRS guidelines, and reports directly to the VITA Volunteer Site Coordinator and the United Way VITA Representative.
Primary Duties:
• Welcomes clients to the VITA site, reviews the intake forms and procedure with them, and answers questions regarding VITA and/or United Way of Escambia County.
• Verifies that clients have sufficient documentation prior to meeting with the VITA Volunteer Tax Preparer or MFT Volunteer Tax Assitant.
• Processes intake forms and discusses any areas the client might have left blank.
• Assists in recruitment of VITA site volunteers (Greeters, Tax Preparers, and Tax Assistants).
• Evaluates and communicates VITA site trends that impact staffing and program assistance to the Volunteer Site Coordinator.
• Complies with the quality assurance process that has been established by the IRS.
• Is capable of handling high stress and intense workload, while maintaining a positive attitude.
Other Information
• Position is flexible depending on site hours. It is preferred that a VITA Volunteer Greeter be able to commit to at least 2 hours per week.

• If a student is completing an internship, 15-20 hours per week are required.

• VITA Volunteer Greeter is an internship or volunteer-based position only
• Each Volunteer is expected to offer suggestions for improvement and growth in an effective manner, and communicate relevant information with staff and participate in staff meetings.
• Other duties as assigned by VITA Volunteer Site Coordinator or United Way VITA Representative.

Qualifications:
Required:

• Up-to-date IRS VITA certification (a minimum of Code of Ethics).

• United Way of Escambia County will provide the resources needed to obtain VITA certification through the Link & Learn modules online and/or in a classroom setting. Certification is free of cost, and individuals should inquire with United Way of Escambia County for more information on how to become certified.

• Capable of handling high stress while maintaining a positive attitude.

• Professional appearance, clear speaking voice and excellent interpersonal skills
• Flexible, diplomatic, trustworthy, creative and maintains a supportive and cheerful attitude.
• Maintains a professional manner while working with volunteers, staff and community.

Preferred:
• Computer skills including Microsoft Office software.
• Previous volunteer experience.
