Jimmy’s offers different shifts, activities and roles for volunteers to get involved in.
Reception Duties: I am available the following days on reception:

Recruitment Process:
Once the contact form has been returned to the Volunteer Coordinator, you will be contacted within 10 working days with a date and time to come in for a chat, (there may be times when potential volunteers are place on a waiting list) This usually takes an hour. It takes approx. 2 weeks for the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)to be processed.
You can begin volunteering once we have viewed your DBS.
Volunteer Induction:
All Volunteers need to attend an induction, which takes 2 hours.

CRIMINAL RECORD
Jimmy’s Cambridge uses the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) to assess volunteers’ suitability for positions of trust, and complies fully with the DBS
Code of Practice. As an Equal Opportunities employer Jimmy’s Cambridge will not unfairly discriminate against you if you declare that you havea criminal record during your application/registration process. However, we are committed to the protection of vulnerable adults and so require an enhanced disclosure for all volunteers
Having a criminal record will not necessarily bar you from volunteering with us.
We comply fully with the DBS Code of Practice regarding handling, use, storage, retention and disposal of criminal record disclosures.
CONFIDENTIALITY
Anything learnt about any guest staying at Jimmy’s Cambridge is treated as confidential, and all reasonable precautions will be taken to ensure that guests’ privacy is protected. You shall not at any time whilst volunteering, or at any time after your volunteering has terminated, disclose to any person any information as to the business dealings or affairs of Jimmy’s Cambridge or it’s guests, or as to any other matters which may come to your knowledge by reason of your voluntary position.
DATA PROTECTION
Jimmy’s is committed to maintaining your personal information in a manner which meets the requirements of the Data Protection Act (1998) and will take all reasonable steps to ensure that your personal data is kept secure against unauthorized access, loss, disclosure or destruction.
SAFEGUARDING OF VULNERABLE ADULTS
Many of Jimmy’s guests are vulnerable adults. This means we must take action if they are put at risk of, for example, physical, sexual, emotional, financial, professional or institutional abuse. This applies whether the abuse is committed by another guest, volunteer or member of staff. If you see anything that you believe could be a safeguarding issue, tell a member of staff or Jimmy’s CEO immediately.
HEALTH & SAFETY
Please comply with all health & safety procedures and instructions that are issued by staff, and please remember that you should always act in a safe and sensible manner while at Jimmy’s. Always operate equipment in the right way and always wear protective clothing provided.
DRUGS, ALCOHOL & WEAPONS
On Jimmy’s premises, we do not permit:
• possession, consumption, preparation, injection, trading, smoking, sharing or passing of illegal drugs.
• possession, consumption, sharing, passing or trading of alcohol.
• possession of weapons, or any item a member of staff thinks may be used as a weapon.
If a member of staff believes you are ‘under the influence’ whilst on duty at Jimmy’s, you may forfeit yourrole as a volunteer.

VOLUNTEER ROLES
Daytime & evening activities:
Mon – Sun, various times to suit. Run agreed activities (small groups on Jimmy’s premises) smoothly, providing feedback to staff team as appropriate. Ensure materials are prepared before the group and the workspace is tidied at the end of the group. Daytime activities include life-skills classes (budgeting, healthy living, back to work etc), arts & crafts, music, games.
Skills/qualifications: a keen interest in the subject matter
Reception:
Mon – Sun, various shifts between 10.00am and 8.00pm.
Take phone calls and answer queries or pass messages on. Greet visitors to Jimmy’s (funders, guests, donors etc). Deal with guest’s basic queries.
Skills/qualifications: we will show you relevant equipment operations (phones, door security). Good inter-personal skills to represent Jimmy’s on the ‘front line’.
