ASSA ABLOY AperioTM Technology

New sales opportunities for access control systemOEMs and system integrators

Herlev, July, 2012 – Access control systemmanufacturers and system integrators can now expand their product portfolios with a new technology from ASSA ABLOY and thus achieve greater sales volumes with both new and existing customers.AperioTM Technology integrates doors with mechanical locks into new or existing access control systems without the need for any wiring on the door and thus at a fraction of the cost for traditional systems.End customers can thus be provided with a higher standard of security and more convenient access management.

“Incorporating AperioTM products into portfolios does not require much extra effort on the part of OEMs and above all is risk-free since we provide a try-me programme free of charge,” explains Jens Møller Business Manager at ASSA ABLOY.OEMs can implement the AperioTM protocol for this programme in their access control system and are then able to test the technology under live conditions.ASSA ABLOY employees can be consulted at any time regarding any queries about each individual step in the set-up process. “If companies decide to work with us, we offer special training sessions, marketing materials and long-term partnerships. We will be glad to provide OEMs and system integrators with information on the benefits of the AperioTM partner programme,” continues Møller.

AperioTM provides end customers with genuine added valueBased on an open software development kit, AperioTM fills the gap between wired access control doors and non-wired doors with mechanical security technology.Up until now, many end customers have needed to resort to mechanical locking solutions for most of their doors due to reasons of cost, but they can now be offered a reasonably priced, integrated system with AperioTM.
Doors which have not been included in access control systems before may now be fitted with AperioTM cylinders and escutcheons without the need for extensive wiring and then integrated into the access control system online via a communications hub.Building operators now only need to monitor a single security system and are able to change access authorisations online and in real time.

“We are not seeking to compete with OEM access control systems with our AperioTM Technology,” explains Chris Bone, ASSA ABLOY Vice-President Access Control EMEA.“Our aim is to use our experience as the global leader in door opening solution to supply OEMs and system integrators with new components for their access control systems and open up a new market segment for them.” On the one hand, existing customers are able to upgrade their access control systems at a favourable price. On the other, new customers can be offered an integrated system right from the start. Such a system features traditional wired access control doors for high security areas and AperioTM for interior doors, offices or meeting rooms for instance.AperioTM forms a new category of security solutions which is between non-wired, mechanical doors and wired, electronically secured doors.

AperioTM Technology is available worldwide, meaning OEMs and system integrators can implement transnational and transcontinental solutions.AperioTM supports the standards RFID technologies iCLASS®, MIFARE™ and MIFARE™ DESFire™, Low Frequency (HID PROX, EM410x) and LEGIC® Advant are also in the pipeline. Both escutcheons and cylinders are fitted with an RFID reader and feature a timeless design, different handle and knob models, and country-specific profiles. The radio link to the communications hub operates on the IEEE 802.15.4 frequency band (2.4 GHz) and is encrypted using AES (128 bit). The transmission range lies between 5 and 25 metres, depending on the hub type. The number of doors with a wireless connection to the hub varies between one and eight. AperioTM components are connected to the access control system via a RS485 protocol or a Wiegand interface.
