Commitment / 6 months starting in September 2010 – Three days per week
Department name and brief description / This role is in the Campaigns Department. The Oxfam Northwest Campaigns Team focuses on influencing regional political structures, supporting regional activism and building strategic alliances. It does this by raising the profile and understanding of Oxfam’s exciting campaigns (Climate change Costs Lives & Health and Education For All), through regional media, community projects, special events and work with youth and schools.
What the intern will be doing (maximum 5 points) / This is an exciting role that will focus on supporting the youth and schools campaigner with Oxfam’s regional work in youth and schools, planning and delivering a drama project which engages young people in our Education For All Campaign and in supporting volunteers who work in schools.
This will include for example:
· Planning and managing projects
· Working face to face with young people to engage them with Oxfam campaigns and projects
· Establishing or building on links with schools in the region and inspiring them to get involved with Oxfam
· Collating information (e.g. young people’s work) and presenting it in an inspiring/ interesting fashion.
· Managing the administration, monitoring and evaluation of this project.
Some UK travel will be required for this role especially within the region as face-to-face work with schools will be an important element of the role. All work related travel costs will be reimbursed.
What skills or experience the intern needs to have (maximum 5) / · Excellent team-working, inter-personal and communication skills (written and verbal).
· Ability to understand complex information and to present in an easily communicable format
· Good organizational skills and ability to effectively manages own time and workload and come up with creative solutions to problems
· Passion to understand and take action on Oxfam’s campaigns
· Experience and passion for working with young people/schools
