PHILOSOPHY:

The course focuses on a number of essential aspects of the management of construction projects. Construction management theory, case studies and site visits provides a useful introduction to the successful running of construction projects.

Essential aspects of construction projects including the tendering process, preparing tenders, tender evaluation, project planning, teamwork, site safety, and contract types are covered. Case studies are used to reinforce the application of theoretical ideas to the successful running of construction projects.

ASSESSMENT:

40% Construction tender submission (in assigned teams)

20% Two assignments

40% Exam

Note: 50% minimum is required in the exam to pass the course.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Students investigate construction management in New Zealand to develop knowledge about a range of tools available to assist construction management and how these can be effectively utilized in decision making.
