Seventh Generation Club Coordinator

Summary:

The Seventh Generation Club Coordinator (Club Coordinator) will report to the Associate Executive Director and will receive functional guidance from the Director of Research and the Executive Director. S/he will manage the day-to-day and annual systems and processes of the Seventh Generation Club while also working to raise the provincial and national profile of the Club to enhance exposure, sponsorship and in-kind support opportunities.

Duties and responsibilities:

1.  Planning: To draft a comprehensive planning document for the Seventh Generation Club which will govern the Club’s activities and objectives for the next five years. The Seventh Generation Club plan is to feature the following components; funding, sponsorship, communications, collateral, web development, goal models, educational opportunities for members, events and membership.

2.  Membership: To manage the membership of the Seventh Generation Club. To ensure that Club membership is current and that the Club membership database is up to date. To work with the Database Working Group to ensure that Seventh Generation Club data can be captured by the provincial data collection system in public and First Nations schools.

3.  Collateral: To facilitate the production of Seventh Generation Club newsletters, Daytimers, brochures, clothing, hats, publications and other collateral material. To support the Director of Research with the newsletter, Daytimer and other written publications.

4.  Event Coordination: To co-ordinate collaboratively* events, workshops and conferences for FNESC/FNSA. To plan an annual calendar of events, workshops and conferences and to establish workflows for these events. To coordinate working teams of staff/board members to assist in the facilitation of these events and to assign duties as required. To share workflow documents and checklists with other staff who are tasked with event facilitation. To organize the annual fundraising gala and any other events associated with the Seventh Generation Club. To initiate role-model-led events within First Nations schools and school districts such as sport camps, science fairs and exhibition games.

5.  Profile Enhancement: To produce a Communications Plan for the Seventh Generation Club which will serve to raise the profile of the Club with mainstream and First Nations media organizations. To liaise with public and private sector organizations to garner support for the Club through a ‘Friends of the Seventh Generation Club’ program.

6.  Sponsorship: To meet with existing sponsors on a regular basis to ensure that the requirements of their sponsorship agreements are being met and that their support is maximized. To research other sponsorship opportunities within British Columbia and across Canada and to secure additional sponsors to enhance the Club’s offerings to members.

7.  Data Collection: To outline and facilitate a data collection process which will start to track the academic success, attendance and school retention rates of Club members.

8.  Other Duties: To conduct any administrative duties which might be required of the role and to support other members of FNESC/FNSA and any other duties as required by the Associate Executive Director.

*It is planned that all Event Coordination activities are led by the Seventh Generation Club Coordinator and the Executive Secretary. They will work with teams of employees to ensure smooth facilitation.

Requirements:

The position will require an individual with the following knowledge, skills and personal characteristics:

·  A relevant post-secondary qualification;

·  Experience in a busy office environment;

·  Experience of working closely with children;

·  A good understanding of First Nations history and culture, and ideally some knowledge of education issues;

·  Experience at event coordination;

·  The ability to ‘sell’ a product and motivate others to be involved;

·  A positive and motivated role model;

·  Excellent organizational skills and strong data entry skills;

·  An ability to multi-task and be flexible;

·  The ability to plan and implement processes;

·  A team member who can work well with others and is comfortable assigning tasks;

·  Demonstrated skills in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access WordPerfect, Power Point and Desktop Publishing;

·  Dependability and reliability;

·  Flexibility for travel when required; Satisfactory criminal records check; and

·  Valid BC Driver's License.

Hours of Work:

The office hours and hours of employment will be between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. with a one-hour break for lunch. Some travel, evening and weekend work may be required.

Location:

The position is based in West Vancouver, BC.
