If your child is absent, please call the school absence hotline at 281-641-2119 by 8:30am, if you are not able to call, a note stating the reason for the absence must be brought to school within 2 days to avoid an unexcused absence.
If you would like to have a birthdayice cream treat with your child on or near his/her birthday, please feel free to do so. The ice creamcan be purchased through the school cafeteria 2 weeks in advance. Please call 281-641-2108 to speak with the cafeteria manager. Birthdays are recognized during the class day as well. We will recognize summer birthdays at the end of the school year. Please do not send birthday party invitations to be distributed at school.
I will send home book order forms for you and your child to look over every month. Book clubs offer books at reduced prices. It's a great way to build your child's home library!
Parent and Teacher conferences are held at the end of the first 9 week period. Watch for information and reply accordingly. Conferences will be held on October 26th-28th.

Disciplineis simple. We work hard as a class to make the classroom a positive and safe place for all. Students are free to do anything that does not cause a problem for themselves or cause a problem for others. If a student causes a problem, I will first ask him/her to solve it. If the student cannot or chooses not to, I will solve the problem for them.

Early Release DaysAug. 26th, Sept. 22nd, Oct. 26th, 27th, 28th, Nov. 10th, Dec. 16th, Jan. 26th, Mar. 1st, May 17th, June 1st.
This year the fourth grade will be taking one field trip.Watch for information regarding the field trip later in the school year.
Our class will have one-1 hour gym class every week. The children are asked to wear athletic shoes on P.E. days. Please note the floating rotation schedule.
Students will have homework in 4thGrade. Homework assignments will vary and will be sent home in the PANTHER notebook. Unless otherwise noted, please return the homework the following day.
Independence is a goal for students because it builds self-esteem and self-confidence.4th Graders are very capable of doing many things on their own, and I encourage them to do as much as they can for themselves in the classroom. Please work on the following self-help skills at home with your child: organization, getting ready in the morning, bringing all necessary items to school every day.
Writing takes place every day in 4thGrade. One way we accomplish this is through working on various types of entries in our journalsduring writer’s workshop. Encourage your child to write at home for a variety of purposes. The writing STAAR test (TAKS) will take place over two days, March 27th and 28th.
Keep updatedby reading the classroom email every week, reading the PF Flyer, checking my website, and checking the agenda every day for other notes and information.
Our class will visit the library once a week. Our librarian is Mrs. King. Your child will check out two books when we visit the library and return it the following week unless they have not finished reading it. (Library day is Tuesday)
Our class eats lunchat 11:30. If lunch money is sent to school, please have your child take it to the cafeteria manager first thing upon arrival to school.
The children will have music class once a week with Mrs. Daugherty.
The 4th Grademath curriculum provides students with mathematical experiences that help them develop number sense and a positive attitude towards mathematics that will continue throughout their school career and lives.Math concepts are covered through our daily calendar and math class. (With Mrs. Salinas)
TheMathSTAAR (TAKS) test will be on April 24th.
There will be no school on the following days:Sept. 5th, Nov. 21st-25th, Dec. 19th-Jan. 2nd, Jan. 16th, Feb. 20th, Mar. 12th-16th, Apr. 6th and 9th, May 28th.
Open House will take place on Friday, August 19th, 2011.
There are 2 parties and one school event for 4th grade. The parties will be held the last hour of the day. Read up-coming PF Flyers for more information regarding parties.

The ReadingSTAAR test (TAKS) test will be on April 25th.
Study hall is mandatory for students who do NOT complete and turn in work in class. Study hall will be held during recess (12:00-12:15) Monday-Thursday.
The 4th Gradesocial studies curriculum focuses on Texas History. Social Studies concepts and skills will be explored utilizing a literacy based, hands-on approach.
If your child has any changes in their transportation please let me know in writing prior to, or the day of, the transportation change. E-mailingme is the best method for letting me know about last minute transportation changes.
