WGGC 2018 MEMBERS’ CHALLENGE
Our “challenge” during the last guild year was to mount an outstanding group show at the Fitton Center for Creative Arts in Hamilton. (And we did it!)
This exhibition season will conclude in April with a more traditional in-house exhibition of members’ work.
The theme is Resist. To stoke the creative fires, here are a few possible interpretations:
§ Resist as a physical technique (in dyeing or color discharge; in felting)
§ Resisting bias, prejudice, bigotry, persecution, hate, or oppression
§ Resisting challenging personal issues (health, family, age-related)
§ Resisting the effects of global conditions or crises (climate, education, poverty, immigration, war)
Conditions:
· You may use any fiber technique(s).
· Since this is a “challenge,” each artwork must be newly created or completed for this show.
· There is no limit on the number of submissions, although all objects must conform to the installation constraints of our gallery.
· Each artwork must be delivered in “hangable” or “displayable” condition. (Note: Our hanging system works well with wire rigging on frames and not well with alligator hooks. There is space on stands or shelves for some sculptural pieces.)
· The exhibit will be curated. While the Challenge is always an “open” call, the Exhibitions Committee will include those objects that contribute to a show worthy of our guild-house gallery and the public nature of the venue.
· All submissions must be delivered to the guild house no later than April 5, 2018, the date of our monthly meeting. If you are not personally trained to unlock the building, be sure you plan your drop-off visit at a time when the house is open for another function. (You can check the calendar on our web site and then call the person in charge of the function.)
· Each exhibitor must be a member in good standing.
· Each exhibitor will be asked to sign the WGGC Exhibitor’s Agreement.
There will be selection of the Viewers’ Choice Awards, and the prestigious EPIC Award, back after a year’s absence, will be presented to one contributor.
