Class Misson Statement:

Vocal Extension is a selective ensemble made available only to students who are in Chorale. Students must audition for this course, and if selected, they will be placed into either the junior (7-9) or senior high (10-12) ensemble. This course is designed for students who have a higher interest in singing/music, and through the rehearsal process, will be introduced to more advanced choral literature.

Expectations:

1.  Silence - the only acceptable environment for music making. With a class this large, talking will not be tolerated.

2.  Tardiness – Class begins when the 2nd bell rings. Work as hard as you can to get to C110 on time.

3.  Care of Music – Each student will receive a folder with their music. Each student is responsible for the folder and the music within. When the folder is returned at the end of the concert, it must include all music that was handed out. Markings must be made in pencil (no pen)!

4.  Room Condition – The heavy traffic in and out of C110 necessitates strict rules. Please pick up all trash and paper from your own area. Leave the room in the condition you found it. Folders should not be left anywhere in the room.

5.  Restroom – Students must sign out via the High School policy when using the restroom.

6.  Tolerance – At no time will bullying or discrimination of any kind be tolerated.

7.  Excellence – Students will be expected to put forth their best effort at all times during class. Participation is not optional!

Concert Band Grading Criteria:

1.  Performances (50%) – Students must be present and participate in all of the scheduled performances. If there are extenuating circumstances that prevent participation, the student will have to perform their music for me alone to receive an alternative grade. Failure to do either will result in failure of the course.

2.  Participation (25%) – Students must participate 100% of the time that they are in class. Even if I am working with another section, it is expected that students remain attentive and engaged in the rehearsal process.

3.  Assigments (25%) – Occasionally, students will be asked to do written or web based assignments that pertain to vocal technique, theory, or the class repertoire. These assignments should be completed in full by their assigned due date.
