Constitutions and By-Laws Guidelines for Ratio Christi
Article 1- Ratio Christi
Article 2- Ratio Christi is an organization of like-minded people whose purpose is to help
provide information about the need for apologetics. Ratio Christi will meet
this objective by offering written information and by having a representative
available to answer questions.
Article 3- This organization and its members shall not discriminate against any
individual(s) for reasons of race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation,
national origin, sex, age, handicap, or Vietnam-era veteran status.
University Code of Conduct
Article 2- Membership: Qualifications
Voting membership should be defined as limited to currently enrolled Ohio State students. Others such as faculty, alumni, professionals, etc. are encouraged to become members but as non-voting associate or honorary members.
Article 3- Organization Leadership: The organizations primary leader is Brian Stallter. Mr. Stallter was appointed by the organization. Mr. Stallter will serve as the leader of the organization for June 5, 2009 to December 31, 2009. The length of Mr. Stallter’s leadership is open to change by the organization during the course of his first year of leadership.
Article 4- Executive Committee (if needed):
This committee represents the general membership and conducts business of the organization between general meetings of the membership and reports its actions at the general meetings of the membership. The Committee for Ratio Christi is comprised of the organization leaders, chairpersons of the standing committees, and sometimes ex officio positions from related student organizations.
Article 5- Standing Committee: These committees serve the organization leadership, Executive Committee, and general membership and are permanent, and designed to carry out the basic functions of the organization. The organization leadership appoints often chairpersons of these committees.
Article 6- Method of Selecting and/or Removing Officers and Members: The Chapter shall implement a procedure to insure the selection of at least three new officers by August of each year. The outgoing officers shall solicit nominations for new officers from the membership and, after consultation with the Director and evaluation of the candidates’ eligibility, present to the membership a list of those members eligible for election for each office. The determination by the officers, in consultation with the Director, of an individual’s eligibility to hold office shall be final. The Officers, in consultation with the Director as described in shall present to the members a candidate or candidates for officer positions for the upcoming year (August to May of each year). A majority vote of the membership shall be required for the election of any officer. Should a vote fail to result in a majority for any position for which more than 2 candidates are presented, the Officers may, in their discretion, remove the candidate receiving the fewest votes from consideration. This process may be repeated until a candidate receives a majority. Should the membership fail to break a tie between any two candidates for an office after two separate votes, the outgoing chapter President shall break the tie.
Article 7- Adviser(s) or Advisory Board: Qualification Criteria
Advisors of Ratio Christi must be full-time members or Administrative & Professional staff. The responsibilities of Ratio Christi’s advisor will be to oversee the progress of Ratio Christi on a monthly basis. Ratio Christi’s organizational leader will report to the advisor once a month and provide information about the progress of the organization.
Article 8- Meetings of the Organization: Required meetings and their frequency.
One general meeting will be required per academic term except for summer.
Article 9- Method of Amending Constitution: All proposed amendments will be in writing and will not be acted upon until there are votes taken at a general meeting. The constitution should not be amended frequently, or easily.
Article 10- Method of Dissolution of organization: If Ratio Christi should need to be dissolved, a meeting will be held among the leader, advisor and other appropriate parties to discuss the necessary steps to dissolve the organization.
By-Laws
Article 1- Ratio Christi will use Robert’s Rule of Order to govern the organization decision making except when these rules are inconsistent with their constitution or by-laws of the organization.
“The rules contained in [specify for parliamentary practice] shall govern the organization in all cases to which they are applicable, and in which they are not inconsistent with the by-laws of this organization.”
Article 2- Membership
There will be no dues to become a member of Ratio Christi. If someone wants to be actively involved in Ratio Christi, they will need to ask to set up a general meeting with the organization’s leader, advisor and other parties involved. These parties will be the ones to determine whether a new person can become actively involved in Ratio Christi.
Article 3- Election/ Appointment of Governmental Leadership
If there is a change of leadership, there will be a general meeting where the advisor, and the other parties involved will make changes about any of the leadership within the organization. In order for any change in Ratio Christi, there will need to be a quorum of four people.
Article 6- Advisor responsibilities
The advisor of Ratio Christi is expected to be available to conduct general meetings that discuss the progress and changes within the student organization.
Article 7-Meeting requirements
All meetings will include the organizations leader, advisor and other parties involved within the organization. If a quorum is needed, the amount of people needed to meet the requirements will be four people. This will include the organizations leader, advisor and other parties involved within the organization.
Article 8- Method of Amending By-Laws
By-laws may be amended in writing and by reading the change at a general meeting of the membership. There will need to be a quorum of four people in order to have a vote for amending the by-laws of the organization.
Article 9- Removal of members
If a member conducts themselves in such a manner deemed detrimental to advancing the purpose of this organization or is in violation of the OSU Student Code of Conduct, they can be removed through a majority vote of the other voting membership or unanimous vote of the officers, with the consultation of the advisor.
Article 10-Removal of officers
If an officer conducts themselves in such a manner deemed detrimental to advancing the purpose of this organization, is delinquent in performing their officer duties, or is in violation of the OSU Student Code of Conduct, they can be removed through a majority vote of the voting membership or unanimous vote of the other officers, with the consultation of the advisor.
