The 2014 SHASDA Conference will be held at Southpointe at the Hilton Garden Inn, in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at which time the Student Performance Awards will be presented. The format for the student award presentations will remain basically the same as last year.
We will continue to limit the number of awards per district to two high school students. The philosophy behind the recognition also remains the same. That is, to award students who have demonstrated significant improvement in student performance and/or have overcome obstacles in attaining their present status. It was not designed to award those who traditionally have done exceptionally well and would be expected to do so. The criteria may include improvement in grades, achievement test scores, attendance, and outstanding improvement in academics as well as the practical and fine arts. This award, therefore, is designed to recognize growth and improvement.
We will need a 2” x 2” or 2” x 3” color photograph of each selected student that will be placed in the program booklet (this can be submitted electronically – please provide a high quality digital photo). If a photograph is mailed, please inform the student that the photograph will not be returned. All awardees will receive this program booklet as a memento of their recognition. It will be necessary for you, or your designee, to identify the students (please write the name of the student, high school, and school district on the back of each picture) and submit the attached Student Profile Information (form available on our website: on “SHASDA”) no later than February 21, 2014.

3.Provide a PORTRAIT COLOR PHOTOGRAPH for each of the students. We prefer the photograph(s) be sent electronically. If you send an actual photograph, please be sure to write the student’s name, high school, and school district on the back of each photograph. Please provide as professional and high quality a photo as possible.
4.Provide a contact person’s name and phone number.
5.Provide a photo-ready copy of your SCHOOL LOGOonly if it has changed or if an electronic version has not been submitted with past SHASDA nominations.
