REGARDING EV D 68

Please read the information below which was distributed by the Hancock County Health Department. One of those most important pieces to note is that hand washing is the best way to reduce transmission. Alcohol based sanitizer is not effective for this virus.

Enterovirus D68 Confirmed in States Surrounding Indiana

The respiratory illness, Enterovirus D68, has been confirmed in states surrounding Indiana's borders such as Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky and Ohio. Symptoms generally start out similar to the common cold and can also include a low-grade fever, cough, runny nose, sneezing or muscle aches. The illness is affecting children more frequently than adults due to lack of immunity, but some people with weakened immune systems or other respiratory issues like asthma could also require hospitalization. With school back in session, the spread among children is fast. Good hand washing and lack of physical contact can prevent the spread of the virus. Although, as of now, there are no confirmed cases of the virus in Indiana, doctors believe they've already seen patients with the virus.

The CDC is currently recommending that providers utilize standard, contactand droplet precautions with these patients.Staff should wear appropriate personal protective equipment. Alcohol based hand sanitizer is not effective and soap and water should be used.Bleach based products should be utilized for disinfection

PARKING LOT INFORMATION

The East parking lot IS NOT a pick up point after school. Please pick up your ride at the north end of the building.
