ABC NEWS Sunday22nd October, 2017
From the Pastor
Last Sunday morning Jim Kelso was baptised. We had a wonderful time of worship with much appreciated songs and hymns that Jim had chosen. Jim testified to the grace of God that, twelve years ago, brought him back to faith in Jesus after some years as a prodigal son. Praise God for his loving kindness and faithfulness.
Five hundred years ago, in the autumn of 1517, a German monk named Martin Luther began what became known as the “reformation” of the church through the preaching and the singing of the Word. Luther is remembered primarily as a theologian, or preacher, but he was also a focused and prolific hymn-writer, who reinvigorated singing in what became known as the Protestant church.
How the congregation sang was a key question for Luther; he believed that a truly biblical church would be one where every believer was actively participating in every part of the service, including the singing, celebrating this incredible gospel together: “Let God speak directly to His people through the Scriptures, and let His people respond with grateful songs of praise.” — Martin Luther
Luther’s Reformation was centered around five basic tenets, known by the Latin word “Sola.”Sola Scriptura (Scripture alone),Sola Gratia(Grace alone),Sola Fide(Faith alone),Solus Christus(Christ alone), and Soli Deo Gloria(Glory to God alone). The 5 Solastell us that Scripture alone is our highest authority and that salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, for God’s glory alone. Keith and Kristyn Getty are offering free downloads of songs that cover these five Solas of the Reformation.
Today and next Sunday I intend to speak on aspects of the Reformation. Martin Luther contributed to great renewal of the Church when he nailed his 95 Theses to the door of the Church in Wittenberg on 31st October 1517. This month’s Eternity paper has a thought provoking article couched in contemporary language, “42 tweets the church needs now”.
Welcome to visitors today. Please come and join with us after the service for a cup of tea/coffee.

Helpers Needed for School Breakfast
We are providing free breakfast for the Year 12 students at Buckley Park College on Tuesday and require helpers on the day to assist with cooking and serving the students. If you can please let Daniel know today. Helpers must have a Working With Children Check and names of helpers must be given to the school before Tuesday. Donations will assist with this activity. This is a rare opportunity for our Church to be directly involved in serving the school community.
Hymn-a-long
Next Sunday 29th October at 4pm in the Church Building to sing many or your favourite hymns with themes of Praise and Glory to God and His Son, Jesus Christ. Ray Maus.
Working Bee
Keep Saturday 18th November in mind for our next Working Bee.
Church Meeting
The Leadership Team has set Sunday 3rd December as the date for a Church Meeting. Please note it in your calendar.
Christmas Eve and Christmas Day
The Leadership Team is thinking that to do something special for Christmas we could have an informal service in the Hall on the morning of Christmas Eve with morning tea at 10:00, the service from about 10:30 then conclude with lunch. The Christmas morning service (Monday) is planned for 9.30am.
Congratulations
On Thursday 19th October Evangelin and Navin were blessed by God with the birth of a daughter. Nathan has a sister. At the time of printing, Navin and Evangelin had not yet announced the name they have chosen for their baby. Evangelin’s mother has come from India to stay with the family for a few months. Navin has provided cup cakes for morning tea today in celebration of the birth.
Computer Mystery
On the night of the recent Grand Final event Daniel Braid’s work computer went missing from the Hall. If anyone has any knowledge of what may have happened to it, please talk to Daniel. His employer has offered a $100 reward for the safe return of the computer. If it is not found, Daniel will have to pay for a replacement. Please pray that we will recover the missing equipment.
Financial Matters
Praise be to our mighty and faithful God for his generous blessing of this Church! This month we received our annual lease payment for the Telstra installation on our property. Our loan has now been reduced to $29,200. That is remarkable! Income from offerings in this current financial year is well ahead of budget since we received some large special gifts. Praise God.
