Key Features of the Course:
Edexel ‘s Performing Arts is a two year course
designed to allow students the opportunity to
experience aspects of the performing arts industry by
forming a company which actively participates in
performance work.
The Extended Certificate is for learners who are
interested in learning about the performing arts
sector alongside other fields of study, with a view to
progressing to a wide range of higher education
courses, not necessarily in Performing Arts.
It is designed to be 360 Guided Leaning Hours and
is equivalent in size to one A Level.
Students study four units of which 3 are mandatory
and 2 are externally assessed.
The mandatory content is 83% of the final mark and
the External assessment is worth 58%. / Entry Requirements:
GCSE grade 6 or higher in equivalent subject in Performing Arts.

Core Units
1 / Investigating Practitioners’ Work - 90 Guided Leaning Hours
Students will gain an understanding of the contextual factors that have influenced and informed the work ofperforming arts practitioners. They will develop their own professional practice and understanding of features,such as response to a theme, performance styles, genre and purpose. Students will develop skills that allowthem to investigate the work of influential performing arts practitioners and identify the contextual factors thatinfluence their work and critically analyse key information such as creative intentions, performance, productionand repertoire in order to develop and communicate independent judgements.
2 / Developing Skills and Techniques for Live Performance - 90 Guided Learning Hours
This unit serves as an induction into the performing arts where students will develop the appropriate skills andtechniques in one or more of the performance disciplines of acting, dance, musical theatre, physical theatreand variety/popular entertainment. Students will participate in regular workshops, classes and exercises wherethey will acquire, practise and develop the necessary technical, practical and interpretative performance skillsto help them succeed when performing live to an audience.
3 / Group Performance Workshop - 120 Guided Learning Hours
In this unit, students will learn how to respond to a given stimulus as part of a group, using research, discussionand practical exploration to develop performance material and later present an informal presentation of thework to an invited audience. As a member of a team students will contribute to the creative development andrehearsal process, shaping and refining the work, applying performance and team working skills.
Optional Unit
Component 1 / Improvisation- 60 Guided Learning Hours
Students will develop improvisation skills and techniques using a range of stimulus. They will work both as anindividual and in collaboration with other performers, to use skills and techniques in classes and rehearsal todevelop material, explore character, extend and interpret the creative intentions of others. Students can exploreimprovisation either through Dance or Drama.
