Abstract:This Standarddefines standardized messaging and message exchange business rules (patterns) between public transit companies and subsystems. The Standardis intended to provide for both flexible definitions of interfaces to meet local agency needs and interoperability amongvendors.

Scope and purpose:Transit agencies operate differently and have different internal architectures for their business systems, vehicles and field systems. As a result,this Standarddoes not mandate a single agency operating paradigm nor any agency ITS architecture, but rather provides a rich vocabulary of possible information exchanges that agencies can use on an alacarte basis according to their specific business needs.
