Standards and Expectations
As a student interested in applying for a position in ASB you must be aware of the commitment you are making and understand that your contribution of time and energy into ASB is substantial. While upholding your commitment to ASB, you must also attend all classes, maintain good grades, and keep a positive attitude. As a member of Somerset’s ASB, you are committing to the following:
§ A morning or all day schedule
§ Being enrolled in the 5th period ASB class
§ Becoming a member of an ASB committee
§ Attending Back to School and Open House, Awards Ceremonies, Prom, Graduation, monthly board meetings, and other events hosted by Somerset (during and after school)
§ Facilitate and participate in school events
§ Organize and partake in school fundraisers
As a member of Somerset’s ASB you will be a role model and leader on campus. As a result, you will be held to a higher standard. You must be a person of integrity, with good character and citizenship. Honest, trustworthy, responsible, and respectful are expected qualities of all members. You must also have a positive attitude, school spirit, and the confidence to lead. In addition to all of these character traits, all ASB members must meet the following standards:
Applicants who do not meet the above requirements will not be considered for the upcoming ASB class. Current members who fail to meet the criteria above will be dropped from the class. Any behavior issues will lead to an immediate removal from the ASB class.
ASB members who fail to meet the criteria above will be dropped from the class. Any behavior issues will lead to an immediate removal from the ASB class. Officers are held to an even higher standard and will lose their title if they do not meet their specific criteria, and will be dropped form the class if they fail to meet the standards of ASB.
I, ______, have read and understand the standards and expectations above. As a member of ASB, I understand that I am held to a higher standard and promise to meet all of the criteria required of me. I also understand that a failure to do so will result in me being dropped from the ASB class.

S.H.S. Leadership Code of Ethics
Communicators, Citizens, Critical Thinkers
The effectiveness of student leaders depends on the degree to which they are respected and trusted by both students and faculty. Further, student leaders must hold themselves to a high standard because they serve as role models for other students who look to them to represent what it means to be a leader. With that in mind, this Code of Ethics articulates the expectations that will help student leaders maintain the trust and respect of their peers and of the faculty. No written formulas can cover all of the challenges that may face student leaders: we expect student leaders to exercise good judgment and take personal responsibility for decisions that impact their ability to serve as leaders at Somerset High School.
I, ______as the ______agree with the following the following expectations:
I will abide by the Major School Rules and:
· I am responsible to all students of the school and not solely to those in ASB or just my own personal set of friends. I must get good grades and earn the maximum credits possible to promote the goals of graduation at S.H.S.
· I will treat others, both within the community and beyond it, with respect, and I will act with respect for the property of others.
· I will be truthful all times, including in the submission of academic work.
· I will not possess, use, or distribute tobacco, illegal drugs, drug paraphernalia, or alcohol, or misuse
prescription drugs or over the counter medications.
· I will share equally in all responsibilities of the Leadership Class/ASB.
· I understand that it is my responsibility to use social media for positive purposes. As a student leader I will uphold the integrity of our program. I will support this policy with reporting misuse of social media including bullying, exclusion, profanity, hurtful names and words etc.
· I understand that my actions as a member of the leadership of the school can affect morale and assertiveness of other students and their performances. It is my duty to promote a positive atmosphere where all students want to be involved and feel safe to share information and ideas.
· I understand that it is up to me to maintain this Code of Ethics for the benefit of the school and that failure to do so may result in my dismissal from ASB
I understand that if I break any of the above rules I may immediately lose my position. I understand if I am suspended from school for any reason I may lose my position.
I recognize that conduct unbecoming a leader - behavior which is serious enough to jeopardize the respect and trust of students and faculty, and thereby the leader’s credibility and effectiveness - is unacceptable. I understand that this determination will be made by the Principal and Activities Director and that any actions that result in appearance before the Principal/Counselor are unacceptable in a Student Leader and may result in the loss of my position.
I will also abide by the school’s minor rules including dress code regulations, cell phone policies, and attendance expectations, and I understand that repeated infractions of minor school rules may result in loss of my leadership position.
I also understand that my responsibility as a role model for Somerset High School students continues when I am off campus. Therefore, if I make decisions or act in such a way that my credibility as a student leader is compromised by my behavior or by my circumstances, I recognize that it is my responsibility to step down from my position.
