Song of Gathering

O Love That Will Not Let Me Go
Words by George Matheson; Music by Christopher Miner

O love that will not let me go,

I rest my weary soul in Thee;

I give Thee back the life I owe,

That in Thine ocean depths its flow

May richer, fuller be.

O light that followest all my way,

I yield my flickering torch to Thee;

My heart restores its borrowed ray,

That in Thy sunshine’s blaze its day

May brighter, fairer be.

O joy that seekest me through pain,

I cannot close my heart to Thee;

I trace the rainbow through the rain,

And feel the promise is not vain,

That morn shall tearless be.

O cross that liftest up my head,

I dare not ask to fly from Thee;

I lay in dust life’s glory dead,

And from the ground there blossoms red

Life that shall endless be.

Welcome and Announcements

Meditation Psalm 73:23-26

I am continually with You;
You hold my right hand.
You guide me with Your counsel,
and afterward You will receive me to glory.
Whom have I in heaven but You?
And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides You.
My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

Call to Worship Ephesians 1:3-7

Leader:Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him.

People:In love he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.

ALL:In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace.

Songs of Praise

Indescribable

Words and Music by Laura Story, 2004

From the highest of heights to the depths of the sea

Creation's revealing Your majesty

From the colors of fall to the fragrance of spring

Every creature unique in the song that it sings

All exclaiming

(Chorus)

Indescribable, uncontainable,

You placed the stars in the sky and You know them by name.

You are amazing God

All powerful, untamable,

Awestruck we fall to our knees as we humbly proclaim

You are amazing God

Who has told every lightning bolt where it should go

Or seen heavenly storehouses laden with snow

Who imagined the sun and gives source to its light

Yet conceals it to bring us the coolness of night

None can fathom Chorus (2x)

Indescribable, uncontainable,

You placed the stars in the sky and You know them by name.

You are amazing God

Incomparable, unchangeable

You see the depths of my heart and You love me the same

Isaiah 43

Author Unknown

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.

And the waves, they shall not overcome you

Do not fear, for I have redeemed you

I have called you by name; You are mine

Chorus 1 (2x)

For I am the Lord Your God

I am the Lord Your God

I am the Holy One of Israel, Your Savior

Chorus 2

For I am the Lord (Do not fear)

I am the Lord (Do not fear)

For I am the Lord (Do not fear)

I am the Lord (Do not fear)

I am the Lord

When you walk, through the fire, you will not be burned.

And the flames, they shall not, not consume you

Do not fear for I have redeemed you

I have called you by name; You are mine

Chorus 1 (2x)

Chorus 2

Prayer of Confession

Leader:But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God.

People:How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!

Leader:Righteous Father,
we who own more than we use,
proclaim more than we experience,
and request more than we need,
come asking your forgiveness.

People:We seek your salvation,

then act like we save ourselves.
We beg your forgiveness,

then repeat our errors.
We experience your grace,

then act defeated.
We rely on your power,

but only in hard times.
We have become confused and misguided.

Leader: Forgive our every defection.
Bring us to an unbroken commitment
and a steady trust,
through Jesus Christ, who is the way of hope,
the truth of God,
and the life of love,
now and always. Amen.

Song of Assurance

Why Should I Fear?

Words by William Williams, 1717-1791;

Music by Brian T. Murphy and Benj Pocta, 2006

My soul thou art immerged in sin, so deep that none can trace;

Look to the ransom God decreed to clear the guilty race

(Chorus)

Had I the guilt of all the world

He’s able to forgive;

Why should I fear?

The debt is paid, if only I’d believe.

The atonement once made on the tree, can balance many more

Than all the sins of Adam's race, if number'd o'er and o'er.

(Chorus)

He paid the mighty sum and died for sinners yet unborn;

From men, the works of His own hands, He suffer'd shame and scorn.

(Chorus)

Assurance of Pardoning Grace Romans 8:15-17

You did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ.

Song of Thanksgiving

How Great Thou Art

Words by Carl Boberg and Stuart Hine, 1885/1949

O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made;
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.

(Chorus)
Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

When through the woods and forest glades I wander
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees.
When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur
And see the brook and feel the gentle breeze.

(Chorus )

And when I think that God His Son not sparing
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.

(Chorus )

When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration,
And then proclaim: "My God, how great Thou art!"

Sermon Pastor Leonard Bailey

Galatians 3:23-4:7 Page 974

Purchased as Slaves or Adopted as Sons,

and Why It Matters

“Adoption is a family idea, conceived in terms of love, and viewing God as father. In adoption, God takes us into His family and fellowship, and establishes us as His children and heirs. Closeness, affection and generosity are at the heart of the relationship. To be right with God the judge is a great thing, but to be loved and cared for by God the father is greater.”

Jesus, I am Resting, Resting

Words by Jean Sophia Pigott, 1876

Music by JamesMountain, 1876

Jesus, I am resting, resting in the joy of what Thou art,

I am finding out the greatness of Thy loving heart

Thou hast bid me gaze upon Thee, and Thy beauty fills my soul

For by Thy transforming power, Thou hast made me whole

O how great Thy loving kindness, vaster, broader than the sea

Of how marvelous Thy goodness lavished all on me

Yes, I rest in Thee Beloved, know what wealth of grace is Thine

Know Thy certainty of promise and have made it mine

(Chorus)

Jesus, I am resting, resting,

In the joy of what Thou art

I am finding out the greatness

Of Thy loving heart

Simply trusting Thee Lord Jesus, I behold Thee as Thou art

And Thy love so pure, so changeless satisfies my heart

Satisfies its deepest longings, meets, supplies its every need

Compasseth me round with blessings; Thine is love indeed

Ever lift Thy face upon me, as I work and wait for Thee

Resting ’neath Thy smile Lord Jesus, earth’s dark shadows flee

Brightness of my Father’s glory, sunshine of my Father’s face

Keep me ever trusting, resting, fill me with Thy grace.
