1801, Jun 17 -- Land Grant #1923, Moore County, NC
William Smith Senr. received a 50 acre Land Grant located Southeast of Cabbin Creek adjoining the plantation where his father did live and John Cagle. George Cagle and William Smith were chain carriers. [There is confusion about whose “father” this refers to. The land was originally entered by James Williams in 1796 and the entry references “including his Father’s improvement where his Father lives”. The purchase price was ultimately not paid and William Smith re-entered it in 1799. The "Father's plantation" would seem to refer to James Williams’ father, George Williams, who resided nearby. But then in 1807, William Smith deeded all rights to this tract to George Cagle “except the grave yard where his father is buried." William Smith’s likely father, William Smith, purchased land adjoining this tract in 1769 from David Cagle.]
