About This Leadership Award

Purpose of the Award:

In accordance with the United Students in Residence Halls’ goal, the purpose of the Leadership Award Program, as conducted by the Leadership Development Committee, is to publicly recognize a first year student, through a monetary award, who demonstrates his or her proven leadership abilities. Applicants should also describe their future leadership goals in the development and execution of, participation in, or contributions to organizations responsible for the enhancement of the experience of residence hall students.

History of the Award:

In May of 2000, United Students in Residence Halls (USRH) dedicated a Leadership Award in honor of Tyler Feldkamp. This award is specifically designed to recognize first year student leaders living in the residence halls at UW Oshkosh.

Who is Tyler Feldkamp?

Tyler’s career at UW Oshkosh spans a broad range of leadership and employment arenas. He was elected Secretary of Breese Hall during his first semester. The following spring Tyler was elected to the USRH Executive Board, serving in three positions over the course of four years, with his final two years as President.As a member in USRH, Tyler served as the Assistant Chairman for the Project 2000 Planning Committee and his photo is displayed in Reeve Memorial Union as part of the groundbreaking ceremony. He served on the Citizenship Panel, presented programs and workshops for student leaders, and attended multiple state, regional, and national conferences.

How Did Leadership Influence His Life?

“As a student leader, developing student leadership within others allowed meto get to know the individuals I strongly affected.My story is only as good as those that I was able to make adifference for.” Tyler’s dedication to improving the lives of students in the residence halls at UW Oshkosh may serve as inspiration for future leaders and encourage them to continue working hard in both academic and leadership.

Where is Tyler Feldkamp Now?

Tyler completed his MBA from UW Whitewater. As a graduate student, he served as an Assistant Hall Director. Following graduation, Tyler used his well-developed people skills and outgoing attitude to secure a position as a consultant in the technology field.

Selection & Requirements

Application Requirements:

  • Must be a current resident of UW Oshkosh residence halls
  • Must currently be a first year student
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75
  • Must at some point have been involved in a residence hall organization (Hall Government, USRH,NRHH, etc.) or have been elected to a hall government executive board
  • Must be returning to the residence halls in Fall 2017(or participating in a Fall 2017 UW Oshkosh sponsored study abroad experience with a Spring 2018 housing contract)

Criteria for Selection:

  • Activities, Honors, and Awards (50%)
  • Completed Essay (30%)
  • Two RecommendationForms (20%)
  • One from a peer (who has been impacted by your leadership)
  • One from a Residence Life staff member (USRH, advisor, RHD, ARHD)

Selection Process:

Applications will be scored according to the weighted percentages for each category listed above. The top three applications will then be pulled aside and the Leadership Award committee will select the winning application. Note: All applications will be blind (the names will be left off during selection).
