Position Title: COOK'S HELPER/SERVER
Classification: FOOD SERVICE / Number: G-3

QUALIFICATIONS: 1. High School Diploma or equivalent.

2. T.B. Test every 2 years

RESPONSIBLE TO: 1. Director of Auxiliary Central Services (Direct)

2. Building Principal (Immediate)

3. Site Production Kitchen Head Cook (Location Direct)

GENERAL DUTIES: Performs tasks related to the preparation and serving of food and beverages to students. Responsible to keep the food preparation and serving areas, equipment, and utensils clean and in proper working order.

SPECIFIC DUTIES: 1. Wipes tables, sweeps floor, and mops items spilled by students on a daily basis.

2. Keeps “base” supply of fruits and vegetables on hand.

3. Sets up serving tables to correspond to the planned breakfast or lunch (this does not

Mean physically placing tables on the floor; this is done by the school engineer).

4. Daily checks milk cooler for required temperature of 38-40 degrees.

5. Assists, operates, or monitors School Meal accounting (SMA) Point of Service

computer for all breakfast and positions over 3.0 hours, proven ability to run current

Point of Service meal accounting program is mandatory.

6. Keeps work area clean and stocked with the necessary serving items.

7. Keeps serving area floors clean and free of litter.

8. Keeps milk cooler, freezer, and refrigerator clean and odor free.

9. Keeps all serving utensils clean.

10. Reports all equipment malfunctions to Director of Auxiliary Central Services for repair.

11. Completes daily “Receiving Form” (meal counts) meal evaluation, temperature, etc.).

12. Utilizes uniform portion control list to ensure proper meal portions.

13. Exhibits friendly and courteous behavior at all times when serving children!

14. Helps promote special "theme days."

15. Practices "on the job" safety procedures.

16. Attends special meetings when required.

17. Monitors Special Education helpers to ensure they conform to established health and

serving requirements and that they "Wash up" prior to each meal service.

18. Observes established Health Department regulations regarding food service sanitation.

19. Observes U.S.D.A. "point of sale" and serving guidelines.

20. Consults with Director of Auxiliary Central Services on special problems.

21. Rotates job duties as required in site production kitchens i.e. cashier, dish room, etc.

22. Rover duties require serving, cashiering, etc. at satellite/production sites when needed.

23. Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED), previous experience with large scale cooking and food preparation/serving.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employee of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but basic written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to pass an entry level aptitude test. Ability to work in a friendly manner with co-workers and students. Ability to perform job and communicate in a noisy environment. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Trustees policies.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and continuously required to stand. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and repeat the same hand/arm/finger motion many times as in operating a cash register.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as milk crates, frozen foods, canned food etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and depth perception and peripheral vision and color vision.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in temperatures above 100° and occasionally will walk on slippery surfaces. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints and interact with public and other workers.

The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud to where you have to raise your voice to be heard. The employee has a greater than average risk of getting a minor injury such as cut or burn while performing the duties of this job.
